Damming Report blames Sadiq Khan for MET two-tier policing

Damning report says Met’s ‘two-tier policing’ is real and urges stripping Sadiq Khan of control

A damning new report has blown open what many Londoners have long suspected: Britain’s biggest police force really is operating a two-tier system when it comes to protests — and the fallout could hit Labour Mayor Sadiq Khan squarely in the face.

The Policy Exchange think-tank says the Metropolitan Police has been consistently prioritising the rights and feelings of certain protest groups over the safety, peace and property of ordinary Londoners. Their verdict is blunt: this is “not merely a perception but a reality.” And the consequences, they warn, are dangerous — a creeping belief that mob rule is trumping the rule of law in the capital.

The report paints a bleak portrait of Commissioner Sir Mark Rowley’s three-year tenure, during which confidence in the Met has slid to its lowest ever level. While London has seen major reductions in homicide, everyday crime has exploded. Mobile phone thefts, burglaries and shoplifting are described as “runaway” problems; detection rates are humiliatingly low. In some categories, the Met identifies a suspect in barely 1 in 179 cases.

But it is the force’s handling of protests where the harshest criticism lands. The report claims officers have shown striking leniency toward certain groups — especially pro-Palestinian demonstrators — while imposing “very stringent conditions” on others. A UKIP protest in Tower Hamlets was aggressively restricted on the grounds of protecting local Muslim residents. Yet, the authors say, the same urgency has not been shown when Jewish Londoners or the wider public have faced intimidation, disruption, or open calls for “jihad” on the streets.

This, they argue, has created a police culture where some groups are policed softly, others harshly, and all of it based on the politics of a protest rather than public safety. If true, it’s a direct challenge to the principle of equal justice — and a stark warning that the Met may have lost its grip on impartiality.

The report goes further: it says Sadiq Khan should be stripped of oversight of the Met entirely, arguing that only the Home Secretary now has the authority to force real change. It accuses the mayor of weakening crime-fighting tools such as stop and search, claiming this has had “a catastrophic impact” on law and order.

The Met insists crime is falling and highlights major strides in tackling knife crime, robbery and homicide. City Hall defends its record, pointing to more than £1 billion in police funding and investment in prevention.

But the public mood is grim. Only 45% of Londoners believe the force is doing a good job — down from 69% in 2016. Police stations have vanished, phone theft is epidemic, and shoplifting has tripled in four years. In this atmosphere, the charge of two-tier policing lands with force.

The warning from Policy Exchange is stark: unless the Met abandons its inconsistent, risk-averse approach and returns to policing without fear or favour, Londoners will continue to feel abandoned — and criminals emboldened.

Key Takeaways (Hard-tabloid tone)

  • Report blasts “real” two-tier policing, accusing the Met of treating protests differently depending on who’s shouting the slogans.

  • Mayor Sadiq Khan blamed, with calls to strip him of control as crime soars and public trust collapses.

  • London crime chaos exposed, with phone thefts, burglaries and shoplifting rampant while suspects go uncaught.

It is essential to prioritize marginalized communities of color in order to challenge and dismantle white supremacy. Empowering these communities is not just a matter of justice; it is vital for fostering equality and creating a more inclusive society.

on the other hand, who cares really in Londonisthan what happens there ? I would be more concerned of all the social injustice, all the inflated prices all over and the social hierarchy system that openly divides between classes...class and social division is also a form of discrimination so the wokes need to stop only focusing on race divisions.

I hope that is sarcasm.
