The Royal Thai Army has declared Kantharalak district in Si Sa Ket province off-limits to civilians. This warning follows ongoing Cambodian military assaults targeting civilian areas, escalating the threat in the Thai-Cambodian border zone. Residents have been urged to heed state advisories to avoid harm.

Cambodian attacks have intensified over the last two days, resulting in civilian casualties. Col. Richa Suksuwanont, deputy army spokesman, stated there were no signs of cessation from Cambodia, which continued tactics that instilled fear among locals. Despite increased aggression, Thai territorial control remains stable, with a continuous defence of strategic positions.

Cambodian forces have escalated the conflict by deploying BM-21 rocket systems and suicide drones against Thai-controlled territories. These assaults also target areas where Thailand is working to re-establish border markers. The Thai army reports considerable damage inflicted on Cambodian military assets, claiming 82 sites destroyed, including significant equipment losses.

The army has also reported the death of 505 Cambodian soldiers, attributing Thai operations as a defensive response to encroachments on sovereignty. The situation has prompted Thailand's foreign ministry to reach out to the UN human rights chief, highlighting Cambodian attacks on civilians as a matter of international concern, reported Bangkok Post.

Key Takeaways:

  • The Thai army has restricted access to Kantharalak due to Cambodian attacks.
  • Cambodian forces have intensified assaults, particularly in civilian areas.
  • Thailand has reached out to the UN over attacks, citing a severe security breach.
