A Thai restaurant owner posted CCTV footage showing a foreign woman urinating outside his property on Koh Tao, sparking online discussion. Phanthakan Mana shared the video on a Facebook group, noting the incident occurred between 3.53 and 4 am. He expressed frustration over the woman's actions, suggesting she could have used nearby bathrooms in the area's open establishments.

The CCTV captured two women; one used a phone flashlight while urinating, as the second attempted to shield her from view. Phanthakan called the behavior unacceptable and sought advice from netizens on possible actions to prevent future occurrences. The post prompted numerous responses, with many suggesting legal action, citing Thai law that prohibits public urination.

Public urination is punishable under Thailand's Act to Maintain Cleanliness and Order, with fines up to 2,000 baht. However, Phanthakan has not confirmed whether he reported the incident to authorities. The discussion highlights ongoing concerns about the impact of tourist behavior on local communities.

In May, a similar case occurred in Phuket, where security footage showed a woman defecating outside a restaurant. The owner highlighted recurring issues with tourists and inadequate public facilities. Elsewhere in February, a photo of a man urinating publicly in Phuket drew mixed reactions, emphasizing the need for more public restrooms, reported The Thaiger.

Key Takeaways

  • A foreign tourist was filmed urinating in public on Koh Tao.
  • Thai law penalizes public urination, but legal actions remain unclear.
  • Past incidents highlight the need for improved public restroom facilities.

Thai people that look on this as somehow disrespect need to look and reflect -  and get a reality check

we need to pee, sometimes an emergency - get over it thais, I think you have more to worry about..........how many people died this morning  On the roads..... you really need to get priorities right, if a lady having an emergency pee is top priority then this country is lost........well more lost

So this is punishable by law.
It's true, in Thailand there are many places where you can relieve yourself, and that is commendable.
But when I think of the immeasurable number of street dogs doing their business...
What are we going to do about that?

Hey, if ya gotta go......ya gotta go!

Taking the p*ss !!

Quite a normal thing opposite Wang chao,Tak food market, less than 400 my, from publis toilets in local petrol station, also see in Ubon at night less than ten my from restaurant.all cases are Thais.seems to be the place to go in many busy areas.

I wonder what effort TAT has made to let tourists know they can use the toilets in shops and restaurants without the need to buy a coffee.

Not enough public toilets and some restaurants don't allow passers-by to use their facilities (with signs saying "toilets for the use of patrons only".)

It seems his house visited often by many passers otherwise who checks 4:00 AM cam video ?!!!

I have seen local buses stop along a field and many of the passengers hop off men go one side and women the other and do their business.  Other Asian countries too do not frown so much on locals urinating in the "wild".  More rest stops needed with sufficiently clean restrooms for folks to use both foreigners and locals IMHO.

When you gotta go....

Not sure why she needed to use the torch on her phone, was she making a vid......:giggle:

Put up a sign in English and Thai: "Urinators will be monetized!"

No need to consult the netizen committee, I've found a bucket of water normally does the trick.

I see Grab and motorcycle taxi drivers stop and pee in the same public spot multiple times a day. In Pattaya there is a hedge row near the police station that is regularly used as a toilet, people are peeing as the police drive by right next to them.

Peeing in public seems to be a normal and accepted thing here despite laws banning it.

So when a foreigner does it it seems to get blown out of proportion.

Probably  she has seen  the public toilets  😂😂😂

Which is why Starbucks in California smell disgusting and look like homeless shelters for drug addicts.  Wouldn't use that as your shining city on the hill.

No public toilets, where should she go?

At least she didn't pee into someone's yard or entrance

In Japan, every convenience store (yes,7-11) has a public toilet and a copy service.

Koh Tao?

It's a pity she didn't leave a big steaming dump.

Typical drunken trash at 4am in the morning , a wonderful addition to Thai tourism

And I have seen Thai woman having a pee on the pavement beside the road in BKK in front of street food stalls and a bus stop and nobody complains but they of course are THAIS.

I do not condone it but I do not take racist sides either.

Taxi drivers are peeing on the side of the road in the middle of the day, every day, at the end of sukhumvit 11 in Bkk. Where is the outrage for that? I am so sick of these kind of stories, It is just hate mongering against tourists. Sure it isn't ideal, but is anyone getting hurt? Focus on the real issues in the world or just don't say anything
