A 24-year-old Lao national was injured after falling from a four-storey building in Bangkok while allegedly attempting to steal property from a neighbouring house. The incident occurred late on the night of 18 December, with emergency services rushing him to hospital due to severe injuries sustained in the fall. Police said the man remains in serious condition and will be questioned again, once his health improves.

Officers from Thung Khru Police Station received an emergency call at around 11.00 pm on 18 December reporting a man who had fallen from height near the entrance to Pracha Uthit Soi 79 in Thung Khru district. Police attended the scene alongside Ruamkatanyu Foundation rescue workers and emergency medical staff from the Erawan system. The injured man was found lying in bushes beside a commercial building on Pracha Uthit Road.

The victim was later identified as Mr Sai Kham Hen, aged 24, a Lao citizen. He was shirtless, wearing black trousers and no shoes and had suffered head injuries, a large open wound behind his right knee and a badly fractured right thigh. Rescue workers provided first aid before transferring him by advanced life support ambulance to Mahachai 2 Hospital for urgent treatment.

During initial questioning, Mr Sai told police he worked at a nut and bolt factory. When asked why he had gone onto the rooftop, he reportedly replied only, “I don’t know.” Investigators said he was unable to provide further details due to his condition.

A police inspection of the scene found that the four-storey shophouse had a large hole in the rooftop where roof tiles had collapsed. Officers believe Mr Sai climbed onto the roof to move stolen items, including a metal clothes-drying rack and a metal table, which had been taken from a nearby house and hidden on the rooftop. The roof reportedly gave way under his weight, causing him to fall to the ground below.

Mr Kai, 51, the owner of a chicken noodle shop and one of the victims, said Mr Sai had been staying in a rented room next door for about a week. He noticed that household items such as a clothes rack and metal table had gone missing, later discovering they had been bundled together and hidden on the rooftop.

A co-worker, identified only as Mr S, 42, said he heard a loud noise while preparing to eat and went to investigate. He said the injured man was a colleague and that he had never previously observed him stealing, adding the incident may have involved intoxication or another unknown cause.

Matichon reported that police said the injured man was treated under his healthcare entitlement and that victims had been advised to file formal complaints. Further questioning will take place at Thung Khru Police Station once his condition stabilises.
