A fatal multi-vehicle road crash in Kanchanaburi province left one man dead and three people injured after a motorcycle ridden by Russian tourists skidded and struck a sidecar motorcycle, causing it to veer into oncoming traffic. The crash occurred on 19 December and resulted in the death of the sidecar rider at the scene, while the injured were taken to hospital for treatment.

According to reports from the Kanchanaburi Rescue Foundation, the collision took place in the Chong Krabok area, Moo 2, Ban Tha Thung Na, at kilometre marker 162 in Sai Yok district. Emergency responders were alerted by members of the public who reported a serious crash involving several vehicles, including a motorcycle, a sidecar motorcycle and a pickup truck.

At the scene, rescuers found three injured people and one fatality. The first injured person was a Thai man aged 60, who sustained a one-inch laceration to the head along with abrasions to his body and was described as dazed with slow responses. The second injured person was a Russian woman aged approximately 25–30, who suffered abrasions to the right side of her body and her right knee, while the third was a Russian man of a similar age with abrasions to his right knee and right elbow.

Rescue workers provided first aid before transporting all three injured individuals to Phra Piyamaharaj Hospital for further treatment. The deceased was identified as a man aged 50 who was driving the sidecar motorcycle, and he was found unresponsive with no pulse at the scene.

CCTV footage reviewed by police showed that the motorcycle carrying the Russian male and female tourists lost control and fell, grazing the sidecar motorcycle. This caused the sidecar rider to lose balance and cross into the opposite lane, where it was struck at speed by an oncoming pickup truck, resulting in fatal injuries to the sidecar driver.

Police investigators from Sai Yok Police Station attended the scene and ordered the deceased’s body to be transferred to Phra Piyamaharaj Hospital for a post-mortem examination. After this process, the body was released to relatives for religious rites at Wat Tha Thung Na.

SiamRath reported that authorities stated that a full investigation is under way to establish responsibility and proceed with legal action in accordance with the law. Further inquiries will consider CCTV evidence and witness accounts to determine the sequence of events leading to the crash.
