Border forces have seized a cache of IPhones and Hong Kong prepaid SIM cards hidden in a sugarcane field in Aranyaprathet district, Sa Kaeo province, with authorities believing the devices were being staged for illegal cross-border transfer to support online crime networks. The operation resulted in the recovery of 23 mobile phones and associated equipment, preventing their suspected use by call centre scam gangs operating in neighbouring countries. The seizure was announced on 22 December 2568 at 11.15, with no arrests reported at the scene.

The action followed a proactive patrol conducted on 21 December by Burapha Task Force units along the Thai–Cambodian border. The patrol involved the Aranyaprathet Special Task Force (Chor Kor. Aranyaprathet) and the 12th Ranger Control Unit, including Ranger Company 1206, working alongside local administrative officials. The mission aimed to prevent and intercept illegal activities in border areas.

At approximately 07.40 on 22 December, the First Army Area posted details of the discovery. While patrolling a sugarcane field behind Wat Sutthawas in Thung Ruang Thong village, Moo 9, Khlong Nam Sai subdistrict, officers found a grey backpack abandoned in tall grass. A detailed inspection was then carried out.

Inside the bag, officers found 22 IPhone 11 handsets in mixed colours and one IPhone SE. Also recovered were 20 Hong Kong prepaid SIM cards that had not yet been activated, 28 charging cables, one keyboard and mouse set and a photocopy of an identity card bearing the name Liu Mingyang from Gansu province, China. All items were listed and secured as evidence.

Authorities believe the equipment was being temporarily stored while awaiting smuggling across the border for use in online criminal operations, particularly call centre fraud schemes. Such equipment is commonly linked to organised networks targeting victims remotely using foreign SIM cards to evade detection. The discovery underscores ongoing concerns about transnational cybercrime along border regions.

Manager online reported that all seized items have been handed to investigators at Khlong Nam Sai Police Station. Police have begun inquiries to identify the owner of the equipment and trace those involved in its transport and intended use. Further investigations and potential legal action are expected as authorities expand efforts to disrupt related criminal networks.
