Cambodia Breaches Ceasefire with Drone Swarm Over Thailand

Cambodia has reportedly breached a ceasefire agreement by flying over 250 drones into Thai territory, as confirmed by the Thai army. Major General Winthai Suvaree, spokesperson for the Royal Thai Army, highlighted that the drones were sighted on Sunday night, crossing various border areas such as Chong Bok, Chong An Ma, and others.

This incident follows a recent ceasefire agreement made on December 27, 2025, during the General Border Committee meeting. The Thai army noted that the drones violated tension-relieving measures set out in the Joint Statement. The drones were seen intruding into four northeastern provinces: Buri Ram, Si Sa Ket, Surin, and Ubon Ratchathani, raising security concerns for military personnel and civilians in these regions.

Maj Gen Winthai stated that these actions are considered provocative and have the potential to compromise border safety. In response, Thailand may reconsider the release of 18 captured Cambodian soldiers while urging Cambodia to adhere to previously agreed terms. Their capture marks a continuation of Cambodian actions believed to provoke hostility against Thailand.

The situation mirrors past incidents where excessive drone use by Cambodia came after previous border clashes earlier this year, which led to further Cambodian attacks earlier this month. Thailand, so far, has continued to adhere to peaceful measures to de-escalate tensions, but further violations may force a reevaluation of their strategy, reported the Bangkok Post.

Key Takeaways:

  • Cambodia reportedly flew over 250 drones into Thai territory, breaching a ceasefire.
  • The drones were sighted in four northeastern Thai provinces, raising security concerns.
  • Thailand may reconsider the release of captured Cambodian soldiers in response.

250 drones?  Cambodia?  Seriously?

I call pure bs on this. No way they could count 250 drones at night. Someone obviously hasn't got enough votes yet!

This one is a little too far fetched for me to believe. If they saw a couple, ok, but 250 is really unbelievable.

Phake as Hades.

One curious side effect of this theatre is that I've noticed more Westerners are pausing their retirement move into both Thailand and Cambodia.

I suppose just coincidence.

Any photographs??? It's hard to believe!

Just fly some F-16's over Phnom Penh and pop some flares.  Send a clear message that if Cambodia's provocations do Not stop Cambodia might not like the results.

Millions of baht in trade on both sides lost. Thousands displaced.  Maybe Cambodia can up another video of their soldiers Mock hunting with the 3 soldiers in back pointing their fingers like guns because they didn't have enough.

"is that what they actually said ?  do you have a link ? I'm not doubting that what we are being told is b/s but confirmation that it is simply not true  from an allegedly independent observer might help put a stop to these fairy tales

Isn't that what they are there for?

looks like you don't know so much either,  Another one fooled by the name of the "peoples party" and by their predictable pre election promises, I suppose you are all in favour of western styled "democracy" being inflicted on Thailand, it will make it feel more like home for you,

My thought exactly. How do you count 250 drones? Even if they didn’t arrive all at the same time and place, I doubt it’s possible to make an accurate count. Multiple drones I could believe…..maybe

With respect, from which army - Thai or Cambodian?

Cambodia has issued an order banning the use of unauthorised drones in Phnom Penh and several provinces, particularly those bordering Thailand, after Thailand’s Second Army Area reported detecting more than 250 UAVs crossing from Cambodia into Thai territory.

The Second Army Area said that on the night of December 28, it detected more than 250 unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) flying from the Cambodian side into Thailand’s sovereign airspace in multiple locations: Chong Bok, Chong An Ma, Khao Sattasom, Sam Tae, Don Tuan, Chong Krang, Prasat Ta Muen Thom and Chong Sai Takoo

How have you noticed that?

If they are flying over Thai land I would have thought the army would have taken some pot shots at them and brought some down.

And have Cambodia claim that Thailand has broken the ceasefire by firing weapons? Not a very good idea (and likely exactly what Cambodia was hoping for).

The Thai army would have no idea if these drones were carrying munitions, or what their mission was. So shooting down Cambodian Drones (if there were any) over Thai territory is a purely defensive action. Like shooting Chinese weathers balloons over the USA.

Sure, but it would be easy for Cambodia to deny it, and make a big deal internationally about Thailand opening fire during a ceasefire. They are hell-bent on being portrayed as the victim, and Thailand knows that.

As the bigger and more developed country, Thailand is already being held to a higher standard internationally, so they have to be more careful in how they deal with things like this. Thailand is wise to maintain their moral high ground.
