Police have arrested a 42-year-old man on a charge of murder following the fatal stabbing of a creditor during a dispute over a 2,000-baht debt in Bangkok. The victim, a 34-year-old man, was found dead in a rented townhouse in Khlong Toei district, prompting an urgent manhunt that ended with the suspect’s capture in another province. The case has highlighted how a minor financial dispute escalated into a fatal confrontation.

The incident occurred on 27 December 2025 at around 5.40pm inside a rented room in a three-storey townhouse used as a lodging house in Khlong Tan sub-district, Khlong Toei district, Bangkok. The victim, Mr Surapir, aged 34, from Buriram province, was discovered lying in a pool of blood with fatal knife wounds. Police from Thong Lor station were alerted by the property owner, who reported finding an unidentified man deceased inside the building.

Investigators established that both the victim and the suspect worked as security guards and knew each other, with the suspect identified as the renter of the room where the killing occurred. Police later named the suspect as Mr Arun, aged 42, who fled Bangkok shortly after the incident. A coordinated investigation led officers to a house in Samrong sub-district, Non Thai district, Nakhon Ratchasima province, where Mr Arun was arrested at 10.30pm on 28 December 2025.

According to police, Mr Arun confessed to the killing during questioning and was formally charged with murder. He told investigators that the victim had come to his room to demand repayment of 2,000 baht that he had previously borrowed. Mr Arun said he had attempted to pawn his belongings, including a guitar, but was unable to raise the money, leading to a heated argument.

Mr Arun further claimed that the victim had been staying temporarily in his room because he had not yet found accommodation and that the property owner did not allow outsiders to stay. During the argument, he alleged that the victim pulled out a knife but dropped it, after which Mr Arun picked it up and stabbed him before fleeing the scene. Police have recorded the confession and transferred the suspect to Thong Lor Police Station for further legal proceedings.

Khaosod reported that authorities stated that the suspect remains in custody and will face prosecution under the law. Investigators will continue to gather evidence and submit the case to prosecutors as the legal process moves forward.
