ECHR ‘Meddling’ Revives Shamima Begum Bid To Sneak Back To UK

Shamima Begum has been handed a stunning lifeline to return to Britain — thanks to European judges accused of meddling in UK security. The ISIS bride, who fled London aged 15 to join the death cult in Syria, could now see her case blown wide open after the European Court of Human Rights demanded ministers justify stripping her citizenship.

The move has triggered fury across Westminster. Shadow Justice Secretary Robert Jenrick thundered that Begum should “never step foot in the UK again,” blasting Strasbourg for trying to tell Britain who it can and cannot allow into the country. Former Security Minister Sir Ben Wallace said Begum “knowingly and freely joined ISIS” and “deserved to lose her citizenship,” adding she should simply “stay there.”

The court has grilled the Home Office over whether Begum’s rights — including anti-trafficking protections — were breached when she was cut loose in 2019. Her lawyers call it an “unprecedented opportunity,” while critics warn it opens the door for extremists to flood back into Britain.

Begum, now 26, remains in the al-Roj camp in Syria after losing every legal challenge in the UK — including at the Supreme Court. But Strasbourg’s intervention signals it believes there may be a human-rights case to answer, reigniting fears she could eventually be waved through Britain’s borders.

Ministers insist Begum — who married an ISIS fighter and lost three children in Syria — still poses a national-security threat. A Home Office spokesperson vowed the Government would “robustly defend” the decision to revoke her citizenship and protect the British public.

But with European judges circling and lawyers scenting blood, the battle over Britain’s most notorious ISIS bride is far from over — and the final say may not rest in London at all.

Key Takeaways

  1. European judges have demanded the UK justify stripping Shamima Begum’s citizenship.

  2. Senior British politicians accuse the ECHR of “meddling” in UK security.

  3. The move revives fears Begum — and others — could one day return to Britain.

I'm conflicted over this issue. Was she 'trafficked' or did she go willingly? Where and by whom was she radicalised? How did she find her ISIS mule in Turkey?

I believe she should be sent to Bangladesh or live in a refugee camp permanently, as so many human beings do around the world. She could cook for the poor, for instance.

How can anyone support ISIS after their genocide of the Yazidis. Don't forget, the Yazidis are not Muslims. They have their own religion.
