Thailand Enforces Tax on All Imported Online Goods

Featured Replies

Glad I waited to order a medical device I need, costs $900 in US, pbly wouldn't have added another $400 in customs charges. I’ll just have someone hand carry it for me as a ‘used' device..

It's not just our money as this also affects Thais who buy goods online that were manufactured overseas. That moron Trump started this with his tariffs and who's most affected by this law. the people of the USA.

yes "our" money means Thai's too and literally everyone else in the country.

I've seen most everything on Lazada get a price increase since 1 Jan.

For example a Chinese brand(Oppo) smartphone went from 22,500 baht to 23,000 baht. Another item went from 320 baht up to 360 baht.

This was initially pitched and partially implemented when Temu came on the scene!

Anyone here who wants to see the price increases....Just look at the prices you paid for your previous purchases and see the price now....

I'm assuming that ebooks from Amazon won't be affected ...

In my case I charge ebooks to my Oz debit card, which has the effect - not particularly intended by me - that the purchase looks like it was made in Oz. So no Thai tax in any case (I think).

You think that's bad, they want $109 (USD) import charge to send my new eGPU here via Amazon.

The model I ordered doesn't exist here, or I would. I don't purchase through Shopee though, either Lazada, Amazon, or the manufacturer only.

I sent my Insta X4 camera for repair in Hong Kong under warranty, ended up having to pay as they said it wasnt covered and said they would send me a new camera as replacement. Had to pay for return fees as well and they used Fed Ex. I got a notification that they had received my parcel and would deliver it next day but then I got another notification by email it had been delayed by customs. The email said I did not need to reply, they would update me. I informed Insta and they said they would look into it.

10 days later and still nothing when I stumbled across their 1782 number and called it. Operator said she needed to consult as they hadnt update the system. When I received a phone call back they said that I was the importer and had to provide my passport details and then would send a form out by post that I must fill in and return for them to act as my broker!!!!

And then I saw the charges, 1423 baht (300 checking fee, 200 baht tax and the rest was rising at 150 baht per day for storage fees). I explained that this was a warranty replacement, I had already paid tax with Lazada and that nobody had contacted me by email or phone. They said they had tried but they didnt have my contact details. I said that was untrue as they had send sent notifications about the parcel already.

My question is why am I being penalised for taxes and import fees that silently increased everyday. Insta360 has been contacting them everyday and at no time was they told that they I would need a copy of my passport and to fill in a form so Fed Ex are my broker for imports

As it stands, I have told FedEx to return the parcel if Insta360 accept it but I worry if Im just making a bad situation worse

Yup my eGPU from Amazon got sent via UPS, which I knew was going to be an issue, sure enough it was. Amazon said they would handle the Customs stop, because it's just over B40,000......they (UPS) want me to fill out paperwork at Suvarnabhumi Airport Customs and apply as a Broker, I told Amazon about it, they said they would handled it, that was 5 days ago.......I'm not trucking down to that airport for anything, nor should I, I paid them to expedite it, not about to spend hours chasing a package down and being scammed out of more money by Somchai at Customs (I already paid the custom fees up front on Amazon) .Looks like it will be sent back, and they will issue me a Full Refund starting on the 18th (which is the deadline Amazon Customer support said they would go by).

Lazada and Temu will shut down operations in Thailand ??🤣

They won't dare tax Chinese imports, but don't expect them to confirm that out loud.
