A waiter has been killed and a woman seriously injured after a drunken customer pulled a knife during an argument at a casual dining bar in Bang Phli district, Samut Prakan province. The attack occurred shortly after midnight on 4 January, causing panic among staff and customers at the venue in the Rueb Bin Market area. Police confirmed the suspect was restrained at the scene and later placed under guard in hospital.

According to Bang Phli Police Station, officers were alerted to a violent assault outside a “sit-and-chill” style restaurant in Bang Pla subdistrict. Emergency responders found three injured people: two men and one woman, all initially in serious condition. One of the men, identified as Mr Don, a waiter at the restaurant, later died from stab wounds to his chest and abdomen.

Police said the suspect, an unidentified man aged about 30, had visible facial swelling and bruising after being subdued by staff and witnesses. A 29-year-old woman known by the nickname “Nam” suffered a stab wound to the abdomen while attempting to intervene. All three were taken to nearby hospitals, where Mr Don was pronounced dead.

Investigators stated that the suspect had been drinking at the restaurant before closing time around midnight. Staff were cleaning up and watching football when the man left, having earlier shown irritation over ice allegedly missing from his beer. A waitress said the suspect had not ordered ice initially, but remained angry over the issue.

After the restaurant closed, the man returned and argued again with Mr Don about the missing ice. Police said the suspect then walked back to his motorcycle, retrieved a knife from under the seat and stabbed Mr Don, causing him to collapse. When the woman tried to stop the attack, she was stabbed once more.

At the scene, officers recovered four knives in the suspect’s possession. The knife believed to have been used was a short, pointed blade about 15 centimetres long, found near the restaurant. Tables and food items were scattered across the ground, indicating a struggle.

Police have collected forensic evidence and questioned witnesses. The suspect remains under police guard in hospital and will be formally questioned and charged once doctors confirm he is fit. Authorities said he is being closely monitored to prevent escape.

Daily news reported that Deputy Superintendent Pol Lt Col Thoengkiat Manee-in confirmed the restaurant was operating within permitted hours and was closing when the incident occurred. He said police would increase patrols and tighten controls around drinking venues to prevent alcohol-related violence.
