Trump’s Greenland Gambit: Could Force Be an Option?

The White House confirms that they are considering all options, including military force, as Donald Trump shows interest in Greenland. The US president sees Greenland as crucial to national security, citing unfounded claims that it's crowded with Russian and Chinese ships. Experts from the US, UK, and Denmark explore potential approaches and their implications.

The idea of using military force has caught attention, although it would be disastrous for NATO, as such an action would mean a NATO member attacking another. Greenland, sparsely populated with only 58,000 people, lacks military defences, making it vulnerable. Denmark, responsible for its defence, has increased spending in the Arctic, but it still has limited resources there.

A US military operation could theoretically be swift and meet little resistance, but former officials argue it would violate international law and damage alliances. They believe Congress would oppose any move that risks NATO’s stability. The potential backlash is significant, and the legal barriers are formidable.

Alternately, the US might consider buying Greenland, although it’s not for sale. Secretary of State Marco Rubio has indicated that the administration favours this approach. However, any purchase would necessitate complex negotiations involving Greenland, Denmark, Congress, and the EU, with significant hurdles in securing the required approval.

Experts suggest that Trump could pursue an influence campaign, winning over Greenlanders with financial incentives. Reports indicate US intelligence agencies are already monitoring Greenland’s independence movement. An eventual partnership could follow, akin to US agreements with some Pacific nations, allowing military access in exchange for economic benefits.

For now, no substantial Greenlandic support exists for US ownership. Local political parties are not campaigning for integration with the US. Analysts believe efforts might fail unless Greenlanders change their stance. Any potential move to become part of the US remains speculative, with Greenland more likely to engage with the EU in the future, reported the BBC.

Key Takeaways

  • Donald Trump's administration considers multiple strategies for Greenland, including military action.

  • Concerns arise over the potential impact on NATO and international law.

  • Greenland's future with the US remains uncertain amid legal, political, and public challenges.

The threat, even if stayed "all options are on the table" of the use of force against a NATO ally is reason, in itself, of cause of Impeachment!!

To be clear his desire for Greenland is NOT about security. The country has rare earth elements virtually untouched which are required in the manufacture of high- tech products. Both China and Russia have shown interest in recent history, which trump knows and that’s why he and the American tech firms he takes money from, also called bribes, wants it so bad. He wants to own the land, name the price for there sale and line his own pockets from the deals he makes.

The one thing he underestimates is Europes response. They know what they’re dealing with and won’t kowtow to the wannabe king of the world and they’ll fight if they have to. Maybe it’s time he learns not everybody is intimidated by a moronic orange faced clown.
