Immigration police have arrested seven Chinese nationals linked to an alleged scam network, after a raid on a Chinese restaurant in Bangkok’s Huai Khwang district on 7 January 2026. Authorities said the suspects had either entered Thailand illegally or overstayed their permitted visas, with some connected to cybercrime networks operating in the Golden Triangle region. One suspect was also found to be fleeing an outstanding fraud case in China involving losses of around 30 million baht.

The operation was carried out by Immigration Division 1 under the command of Pol Lt Gen Phanumart Boonyalak, Commissioner of the Immigration Bureau, alongside several senior officers. The raid followed intelligence indicating that a group of Chinese nationals with suspected criminal links were hiding in central Bangkok after unlawfully entering the country. Officers confirmed that six of the seven had entered Thailand without permission, while one had remained after their authorised stay had expired.

Investigators said deeper background checks revealed that two of the suspects had prior involvement with cybercrime gangs based in the Golden Triangle area. Another individual was identified as a fugitive wanted in China on fraud charges with a reported value of approximately 30 million baht. The group was described as being connected to Chinese scam operations gangs, which have been a growing concern for regional law enforcement agencies.

Following their arrest, police charged six suspects with entering and residing in the Kingdom without permission and charged one suspect with remaining in the Kingdom after permission had expired. All seven were transferred to investigators at Huai Khwang Police Station for further legal proceedings. Authorities stated that the case would proceed in accordance with Thai immigration and criminal law.

Officials noted that the arrests form part of a broader crackdown on transnational crime, particularly cyber fraud networks operating across borders in mainland Southeast Asia. The Immigration Bureau has intensified surveillance and intelligence-sharing to prevent Thailand from being used as a refuge by foreign criminal groups. Cooperation with foreign law enforcement agencies is expected to play a key role as investigations continue.

Naewna reported that police said the suspects will remain in custody while legal processes are undertaken, including potential coordination with Chinese authorities. Further inquiries may determine whether additional suspects or linked operations are present in Thailand. Immigration officials reiterated their commitment to identifying and removing foreign nationals who pose risks to public safety or violate immigration laws.
