Thai maritime authorities have rescued a Myanmar fishing crew member who was injured in an incident aboard a fishing vessel in waters off Sattahip, highlighting ongoing emergency response operations at sea. The injured man was stabilised, transported safely to shore and transferred to hospital for urgent surgical treatment.

The incident occurred on 12 January 2026, when the Maritime Enforcement Command Centre Region 1 (MECC Region 1) coordinated with the First Naval Area Command to assist a fishing vessel operating at sea. The accident took place at approximately 4.30am at a location bearing 206 degrees, around 34 nautical miles from Chong Samaesan.

According to MECC Region 1, the injured crew member was identified as Mr Ko Ko Naing, a Myanmar national working aboard the fishing vessel W. Chokweerawat. He suffered injuries after his arm was pulled into a mechanical winch while carrying out his duties on board.

The injuries included a deep wound, almost severing the index finger of his right hand, significant pain and swelling along his right arm and laceration to his mouth and lip. The severity of the injuries prompted an emergency maritime medical response to prevent further complications.

After receiving the distress report, MECC Region 1 coordinated with the Provincial Maritime Enforcement and Security Centre in Chonburi and Aphakorn Kiattiwong Hospital at Sattahip Naval Base. Patrol vessel T.264 was deployed alongside a maritime emergency medical team to provide immediate assistance.

At 10.00am, Petty Officer First Class Wuttichai Worasan, an administrative officer from the Chonburi Provincial Maritime Security Centre, led the medical team to rendezvous with the fishing vessel. The team administered first aid at sea and prepared the injured crew member for evacuation.

By 10.50am, patrol vessel T.264 arrived safely at Laem Thian Pier within Sattahip Naval Base. The patient was then transferred by the emergency team to Sattahip Hospital at kilometre marker 10 for surgical treatment and close medical supervision.

Officials stated that the operation demonstrated the readiness of MECC and the Royal Thai Navy to provide round-the-clock assistance to those in distress at sea. The integration of naval and medical resources was emphasised as critical in increasing survival chances and reducing losses among fishing communities.
