Just to start the ball rolling :

1: "Your computer may be at risk"

It probably is because when this annoying little bubble has appeared for the n'th time in an hour I get this insane urge to punch it instead of just clicking AGAIN on the X.

"Automatic updates" IS switched off because , such as it is , I DO NOT want some Seattle robot screwing up my operating system even more.

:o

PS when the million mark is achieved I will request closure on this thread.

Vent on until then!

:D

...and in my experience Vista works even better.

There are alternatives. Macs can do anything Windows PCs can do. Linux too but it requires a bit more work.

Granted Mac's can perform as well, or even better than a Windows based PC, but the software limitations make them undesirable - which is a shame.

Linux in my opinion needs scrapping and all the expertise put into developing a real working alternative to Bill Gates offerings. How many new machines can operate with it straight out of the box? My two computers certainly can't, it won't recognise my Sierra air card, my Ati graphics adaptor, the sound card...the list goes on and on.

I don't know about Vista, but on XP if you open the Security Center (from control panel) you can 'Change the way Security Center alerts me' to get rid of the nag balloons.

Most annoying things list;

Every 6 months I need a fresh WinXP install.

With every fresh install I am amazed by the default stupid settings and annoying balloon tips.

Need registry hacks to get my settings and detail views back.

Windows firewall is a joke if you use a dialup modem.

The windows updates means only more problems.

Windows networking from the days Windows for Workgroups always have problems with connecting networkdrives and printers.

Windows security and privacy HA!

When I want to edit a html page MS Word starts up!

Internet Explorer deep buried by me crawls up from the grave with every chance.

and so on etc etc.

There are surely alternatives, Linux is capable to replace Windows XP in any small office, and surely for people who run a small office at home.

The problem that some hardware not works with Linux is simple explained, people buy cheap Windows oriented hardware which only works with MS Windows.

Also most of this people who complain the loudest about Linux doesn't work, seem also not willing to pay for MS Windows
