Taiwanese Drug Suspect Arrested in Bangkok Condo Raid

Narcotics police have arrested a Taiwanese national described as a key figure in an international drug trafficking network during a raid on a condominium in Bangkok’s Asok area. The suspect, Mr Chiang Ming Feng, 27, was detained at around 3.00pm on 15 January after officers uncovered drugs and specialised equipment used to conceal narcotics for export. Authorities said the operation disrupted a sophisticated cross-border smuggling route using Thailand as a base.

The arrest was carried out by the Narcotics Suppression Bureau (NSB) in coordination with the Immigration Bureau (IB), the Metropolitan Police investigative team and the International Drug Monitoring Bureau (IDMB). The operation was led by Pol Lt Gen Achayon Kraithong, Commander of the NSB, acting under orders from National Police Chief Pol Gen Kittirat Phanphet. Officers seized evidence including approximately five grams of ketamine, several rugs, sewn with hidden compartments and machinery and tools used for drug packaging.

Police said the investigation revealed Mr Chiang acted as the “brain” of the network, specialising in advanced concealment techniques. Investigators believe he converted heroin into a white liquid resembling lotion, which was then placed into fake consumer product containers to evade detection. These items were allegedly shipped abroad through international parcel services, including EMS, with Thailand serving as both a hideout and an operational hub.

Further background checks showed Mr Chiang is wanted by Taiwanese authorities and is considered a high-risk individual. He is subject to four outstanding arrest warrants in Taiwan on serious charges, including attempted murder, involvement in a criminal organisation, fraud and theft. Thai police stated that intelligence linked his activities to drug sources in neighbouring Laos, with onward distribution to Taiwan.

Pol Lt Gen Achayon said the arrest marked a significant blow to a complex transnational narcotics network. He noted that the case demonstrated how criminal groups exploit legitimate logistics systems and residential properties to mask illegal operations. Authorities emphasised that close inter-agency cooperation was central to the success of the operation.

Daily News reported that following the arrest, the Immigration Bureau revoked Mr Chiang’s permission to remain in Thailand. He has been handed over to the Narcotics Suppression Bureau to face prosecution under Thai law, while coordination with Taiwanese authorities is ongoing to expand the investigation and identify remaining members of the network. Officials said further arrests and asset seizures could follow as inquiries continue.
