A truck carrying a fitted crane overturned on a bridge in Bangkok on 17 January 2026, injuring two people and narrowly avoiding a fall into a canal below. The incident caused disruption on Chakraphong Road in Phra Nakhon district as emergency services secured the scene and worked to reopen traffic. Authorities confirmed that the injured were treated promptly, with one taken to hospital.

The accident occurred at 13:55 on Nararatthanatharn Bridge, located in the Talat Yot subdistrict. Fire and rescue officers from Phukhao Thong station were dispatched shortly after reports that a heavy vehicle had overturned onto the bridge’s footpath. On arrival, they found a Hino Mega truck lying on its side.

A crane fitted on the rear of the truck was left hanging over the edge of the bridge, almost plunging into the canal below. Oil had leaked onto the road surface following the crash, increasing the risk to other road users. District officials responded by spreading sand over the affected area to reduce the hazard.

Two people in the truck were injured in the incident. One man, 28 years old, complained of chest pain and was transported by rescue volunteers to Klang Hospital for further treatment. A second man, 20 years old, sustained minor injuries, received first aid at the scene and declined hospital treatment.

The crash prompted authorities to coordinate the use of additional heavy equipment to remove the overturned vehicle safely. A crane was brought in to lift both the truck and its load from the bridge, allowing officials to clear the roadway. Traffic was gradually reopened once the operation was completed and the road surface made safe.

Khoasod reported that officials said the cause of the crash remained under investigation. The findings are expected to determine whether mechanical issues, load stability, road conditions or other factors contributed to the truck overturning. Any further action will depend on the outcome of these inquiries.

It looks like a lifting operation gone wrong. Hard to tell if any hydraulic stanchions needed for stability were used on the truck. Possibly they were and but broke through the footpath.
