US Considering Asylum for British Jews

You come across as a thoughtful, fair, and generous person and no, you aren't being antisemitic. Those who would smear you often have their own motives, using the easiest labels at hand to defend state actions or policies that deserve scrutiny. It's much simpler to attack someone's character than it is to address the uncomfortable reality of what's happening on the ground

I dont think that anyone actually accused him of being anti semetic .

Hes just using that false claim to show off about his friends and possessions

Trump considering offering asylum to Jews in Britain is not evidence that Jews in Britain are not safe.

  • A feeling is not evidence it isn't safe. I do believe anti Semitism is on the rise, the cause being Israeli aggression.

  • Wait a minute, are saying you want all anti Israeli protests banned? Just forget Israeli genocide and lock up those who protest it? Palestine Action is a protest movement opposing Israeli government

China is far more prone to discriminate against Muslim Uyghurs. Lotta people in China, not sure any Jews could find a place there to live. Interesting question: Are there any Jews in China? Synagogues? Freedom to worship? Or is it like Russia which has historically always hated Russian Jewry?

Surely you can correlate the Jew PM of the Jewish state having international warrants out for his arrest on charges crimes against humanity and war crimes, the Jewish state's army killing around 80,000 or so civilians, around 50,000 of which were women and children , and the reason why many Jews are feeling less secure and safe?

I call BS.

You're promoting the hatred.

If you are against what Israel and the IDF are doing in Gaza (Iran or Lebanon,or, or) it's important you build a wall between that and how you view Jews. It's for the very same reason all governments should be secular.

You cannot hold Jews responsible for what Israel is doing (It's clear @JimCM @Jeff the Chef don't do that) and you cannot call everyone who despises Israel & the IDF an antisemite, and some of you do that.

Be careful who you call an antisemite....

I was contacted this morning by an old Israeli friend I worked with over the course of 2 decades in the security sector. He is in Laos with his wife, he has left Israel because it's not safe and flies into Chiang Mai tomorrow. I offered him our empty second home in Chiang Mai for as long as he wanted it, just pay the electric and water bills.

He asked me what there is to do in Chiang Rai and after giving him a long list, he has decided to come to Chiang Rai. I have a car collecting him from CM airport tomorrow and bringing him here. I offered him our home in Chiang Rai for a month as we leave for Vietnam on Friday and our live-in housekeeper would look after him. He wants to stay in a resort and a (Jewish) friend of mine is the GM of one of the best hotels here and he prefers to stay there. The GM gave him a fantastic discount.

I offered to lend him my S-Class Mercedes for a month, but he doesn't want to drive here (this is another problem, I can't lend him a cheaper electric car because now they can only be insured for up to 5 named drivers).

We will join him for dinner & drinks tomorrow night.

I know his view on Israel and my own are diametrically opposed, but it's best we don't discuss any of that.

Am I still antisemitic? @Nick Carter icp @Patong2021 @Evil Penevil ?

Nah. Just a show-off bore.

Blaming a whole group of people based on the behavour of some

Like blaming Palestinians for the behavior of a few? 🙂

Then maybe even punishing them as a whole?

Like the collective punishment war crimes that are part of the war crime and crimes against humanity charges against the leader of Israel? 🙂

According to you it would be cool to hate and launch violent attacks on random Palestinians in Chile.

The Israeli government doesn't blame all Palestinians for the actions of the terrorist groups. There are 2.1 million Arabs of Palestinian descent who are Israeli citizens. That's 21% of the population. They enjoy more political and human rights, as well as a higher standard of living, than any other Arabs except the ruling families of the petro states.

The Israeli Arabs are free to move to other countries, but very few choose to go to Arab countries.

The deaths of civilians in the Gaza conflict are not the result of Israel punishing Palestinians, but the tragic consequence of urban warfare in a densely populated area combined with the Hamas strategy of hiding among fighters, weapons and firing points among noncombatants. Israel does not have a policy of committing war crimes, but it is possible some IDF members, a small number, have violated accepted rules of war.

Who said Jews don't have a sense of humor! 😁

The current prime minister and leader of defense have international warrants out for their arrest on exactly those charges, of which collective punishment is one of the crimes (allegedly) committed.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Israeli_war_crimes

Who to listen to, Amnesty International, HRW, and The ICC, or a Jew that was part of the IDF, uses the Star of David to represent himself online, and has Evil in his username, twice. 🙂

I'll go with the IDF over the leftist organizations you listed.

They do stick together, even when 50,000 women and children have been killed and there are international warrants out for the leaders' arrests. 🙂

No, you never were antisemitic. I have never said you were and would have corrected anyone who did.

The fact you have Jewish friends isn't the main point, It's what you believe that is important. You posts show you are highly critical of the policies and actions of the Israeli government, but you don't hate Jews or call for the destruction of Israel.

It's not antisemitic to criticize the government of Israel. From my perspective, you are mistaken with much of your criticism, but that doesn't make you antisemitic.

Here's what you wrote in an earlier post. I have shortened it considerably to emphaize key sentences. Anyone with these beliefs is clearly not antisemitic. You acknowledge the Holocaust; reject the notion of a Jewish world conspiracy; support the creation of Israel; and identify the main characteristic of antisemitism- that all Jews have the same agenda.

That can't be said of some other posters on AN.

IMHO, antisemites can be identified by tarring all Jews with the same brush,

I don't think many Israelis or their ardent supporters realise what sort of “liberal” monsters they have become, and that the world doesn’t view this through the lens of historical victimhood, but through current-day behaviours that have no place in a civilised world. Putin is arguably more humane, but without the sophisticated hasbara polish. Then again, many Israelis are actually Russian, and they have brought their inherited brutality with them. The world seeing the Lidice style collective punihshment and flattening of Gaza shows Amalek in his true colours.

I, for one, don't doubt the truth of this, Ev. Has it been examined whether this student antisemitism was occurring before Israel's war on Gaza?

I came across this reference in a scholarly article on antisemitism at British universities almost 50 years before the Gaza war:

"For instance, in Britain in 1976 and 1977, eight student unions adopted “Zionism is racism” resolutions, openly flouting previously held policies not to deal with the Middle East. Subsequently several student unions, such as those at the University of York and the University of Salford, decided to strike Jewish societies from their registers and to restrict their activities."

https://jcfa.org/article/the-1975-zionism-is-racism-resolution-the-rise-fall-and-resurgence-of-a-libel/

The excerpt below came from an article titled, "Anti‐zionism at British universities," in Patterns of Prejudice, a peer-reviewed academic journal that has been published since 1967. The article's date of publication is July-August 1977. I bolded the final sentence for emphasis.

"Resolutions on the Middle East were debated in 21 student unions up and down the country in the last two terms. Anti- Zionist resolutions, calling for the destruction of Israel, labelling Zionism as racism and resolving complete support for the PLO, were passed at eleven campuses, including Salford, Warwick, York, Swansea universities; the School of Oriental and African Studies, London, the North London Polytechnic and University of Manchester Institute of Science and Technology. The motion at Swansea was followed by an antisemitic article in the students' paper which warned of the 'Zionist plot to conquer the world.'"

To be sure, antisemitism is not a freshman at British universities.

If I were a British Jew, I wouldn't want this doctor treating me. She had her license suspended in November pending an investigation into her fitness to practice medicine. Now she is facing criminal charges.

According to the Metropolitan Police Web site:

Woman charged with inviting support for Hamas

A woman will appear in court tomorrow charged with multiple counts of inviting support for Hamas and other offences, following an investigation by the Met’s Public Order Crime Team.

Dr Rahmeh Aladwan, 31 (03,06.94) of Pilning, South Gloucestershire was arrested at her home address by Met officers on the morning of Thursday, 26 March for breaching police bail conditions imposed following previous arrests.

Rahmeh Aladwan: Doctor accused of antisemitism suspended for 15 months

A British Palestinian doctor who made allegedly antisemitic posts on social media has been suspended from the UK medical register for 15 months while her fitness to practise is investigated.

Rahmeh Aladwan, a trainee in trauma and orthopaedics, faces an investigation by the General Medical Council after posts on X in which she spoke of “Jewish supremacism” and appeared to show support for Hamas.

It would be a major drag to get an NHS doctor who hated you for your religion.

Good Goddess! I've had both Jewish & Muslim doctors. I didn't get along with some, but I don't think any hated me. How would a doctor know your religion anyway? Isn't such disclosure covered by the Privacy Act?

I am in no way implying, nor do I believe, all Arab or Muslim doctors hate Jews. This one does.

I don't know about the U.K., but it is common in the U.S. for hospitals to ask during admission about a patient's religion. That's so the patient will be visited by the hospital chaplain who aligns with their beliefs. Of course you don't have to answer or meet with a chaplain, but a lot of people want spiritual support when hospitalized.

It's also to make sure Jews and Muslims aren't served pork at meals. Some groups are opposed to blood transfusions or in the worst case, autopsies. That information, while privileged, would be available to a doctor.

Some patients would reveal themselves by their surnames, i.e., Cohen, Levy, Rosenberg, Goldman, Friedman, Schwartz, Rosenberg, Kaplan, Katz, Goldstein, Weiss and many others. Yet others might be "visibly Jewish" because of their clothing and appearance. Many Jews wear a Star of David pendant. There a lot of ways a doctor could learn the patient is Jewish.

So that was a couple years after Hajj Amin al-Husseini joined with Hitler to try and exterminate the Jews, yes?
