A Special Express Train No.7 traveling from Bangkok to Chiang Mai encountered engine trouble, forcing it to halt at Lopburi 2 (Tha Wung) on 22 January 2026. The train's engine failure resulted in thick smoke, alarming passengers as the service stopped abruptly for safety checks. The halt left passengers stranded as the train could not continue its journey.

The incident happened at 09:18 when the Daewoo diesel railcar was either arriving at or passing through Lopburi 2 (Tha Wung). As a result, the State Railway arranged to transfer passengers onto buses, ensuring they reached their destinations along the route to Chiang Mai. Additionally, a replacement train set was dispatched from Bangkok and was en route to assist stranded passengers.

Passenger safety was the immediate priority, with on-board staff quickly reacting to the situation by stopping the train. At 11:20, reports indicated the replacement set was on its way to ensure minimal disruption to travelers. The quick response by the State Railway in arranging alternate transportation helped alleviate potential commuter frustration.

Looking ahead, the State Railway will likely conduct a thorough investigation to determine the cause of the engine malfunction. Further measures may be taken to prevent similar incidents in the future, ensuring the reliability of the high-speed service between Bangkok and Chiang Mai, reported The Nation.
