A helicopter made an emergency landing in a rice field near a residential village in Bang Pa-in district, Phra Nakhon Si Ayutthaya, causing alarm among local residents but resulting in no injuries or damage. The aircraft was seen flying unusually low over houses before touching down safely in an open field at the rear of the village. Villagers described moments of fear as the helicopter circled overhead before landing away from homes.

The incident occurred at around 10.00am on 22 January 2026 in Moo 6, Ban Wa subdistrict, Bang Pa-in district. Residents of Kasetthani village reported hearing loud rotor noise before spotting the helicopter flying just above rooftop level. According to witnesses, people on board signalled by hand that an emergency landing was required.

Ms Wasana Homphuangnoi, 49, who witnessed the event from outside her home, said she noticed an unusual sound from the rotors and saw the helicopter hovering at low altitude. She told reporters that she feared the aircraft might land within the village and gestured for it to move towards an open area at the rear of the community. The helicopter then flew over closely spaced houses before landing on a raised dirt mound in the middle of a rice field.

After landing, villagers rushed to the scene on foot and by motorcycle, recording videos on their mobile phones. Ms Wasana said there were three people on board, and they briefly discussed a suspected rotor malfunction. She observed what appeared to be repair work being carried out on the helicopter, which remained on the ground for about 20 minutes.

Another witness, Ms Waraporn Suksaprasert, 38, confirmed that she also saw the helicopter circling very low and signalling for an emergency landing. She said residents went to the site to offer help, fearing someone might be injured, but found the crew working on the aircraft. The helicopter later took off safely and left the area.

Witnesses noted markings on the helicopter suggesting it belonged to the Ministry of Agriculture and Cooperatives. However, this information has not been officially confirmed and authorities have yet to verify the aircraft’s ownership or the precise cause of the emergency landing.

Not exactly the first unplanned helicopter landing in Thailand in recent history. What's going on (<= mostly rhetorical question).

Villagers described moments of fear as the helicopter circled overhead before landing away from homes.

Those damned new inventions, big metal birds the like of which we've never seen before... probably came out to throw bread at it.
