Iran's dissident victims

Featured Replies

Iranians’ rage has been stoppered up for decades. That rage could find no outlet in a country with Morality Police.

Mostly peaceful demonstrations began on December 28. By January 8, 1.5 million Iranians were on the streets of Tehran and 5 million nationwide.

These citizens were quickly met with military violence. The violence we’re seeing in Iran is unfortunately not unprecedented.. There is a long history of savagery by authoritarian governments and their paid paramilitary henchmen.

The protests speak loudly to the power of the Internet. Mobile and online communication channels were government’s first target. Digital comms spread the protests to 192 cities in 38 provinces. The Internet has now been turned off for a month.

The figures below were taken on the 26th day of national protest.

•       Number of recorded gatherings/protests: 633 cases

•       Number of cities involved (no duplicates): 192 cities

•       Number of provinces involved (no duplicates): 31 provinces

•       Confirmed fatalities: 5,002 individuals

•       Protesters: 4,714

•       minors (under 18 years old): 42

•       Government-affiliated forces (military and civilian): 207

•       Non-protesters/civilians: 39

•       Fatalities under investigation: 9,787 individuals

•       Seriously injured: 7,391 individuals

•       Total arrests: 26,852 individuals

•       Broadcasts of forced confessions: 192 cases

ref: Hands Off Cain. Although not noted, it would be relevant to know how many women were active protesters.

Wikipedia: “On 11 January, a group of academics and professionals estimated the death toll at 6,000, based on reports from hospitals, not including bodies taken directly to morgues. On 13 January, Iran International reported that at least 12,000 had been killed; CBS News reported on the same day that activist groups in Iran estimated between 12,000 and 20,000 people were killed. On 17 January,The Sunday Times reported that a network of Iranian doctors within the country had calculated that "at least 16,500–18,000" people had been killed, and 330,000 injured. On 20 January, the International Centre for Human Rights reported that at least 43,000 had been killed by Islamic Republic agents, over 350,000 injured, and over 10,000 blinded in a similar tactic from the 2022 protests, while on 22 January, the United Nations Special Rapporteur on Human Rights in Iran stated the number of civilians killed may surpass 20,000, and NewsNation stated the number of deaths is "closer to 30,000"

Protesters “chanted "Neither Gaza nor Lebanon, My Life for Iran".Discontent in Iran has also been alleged to have been due to political corruption, with protesters accusing the Iranian government of authoritarianism and prioritising proxies such as Hezbollah and Hamas over domestic needs.”

Iran has the second-highest number of executions in the world, ~972 in 2025. Its govt has no reverence for human life.

How much protest may have been foreign influenced? Trump’s belligerent rhetoric certainly served to hardline Iran’s mullahs.

On December 29, Jerusalem Post announced that Mossad agents were instigating protestors via their Twitter account: “As protests grow across Iran, the Mossad posted an unusual Farsi message urging demonstrators to act, saying it is with them in the streets, amid rising economic pressure and public unrest. In June, the Mossad had hundreds of agents involved in Israel’s 12-day war, which set back Iran’s nuclear program, ballistic missiles program, air defense systems, and killed dozens of its top military and intelligence officials.” Such influence from anywhere only inflames the situation on both sides, which is likely by Israeli design.

Although only 3-5% of the population has the potential to bring down Iran’s government by nonviolent action, the protests came nowhere close to that figure. There are 93M Iranians.

All that’s left in the wake of the protests is fear. Remember when there were “God-fearing Christians”? Now there’s only fear of government. Governments like it that way, the masses easier to control.
