Police in Nonthaburi have arrested a 54-year-old freelance housekeeper accused of stealing gold and diamond jewellery worth more than 500,000 baht from her employer’s home. The arrest followed a complaint by a 62-year-old woman who reported that multiple valuables had gone missing from her house in the Krungthep Non area. Officers said the suspect exploited trust built over several years of work before the thefts were uncovered.

The suspect, identified as Ms Sangwon, was detained on 25 January 2026 by investigators from Mueang Nonthaburi Police Station. Police seized several items as evidence, including gold necklaces, diamond pendants, diamond bracelets, gold-framed amulets, pawnshop tickets and a sum of cash. The total value of the recovered property and losses was estimated at more than 500,000 baht.

According to investigators, the victim had employed Ms Sangwon as a freelance housekeeper for more than six years. During that time, she was regularly allowed into the house and became familiar with where valuables were kept. Police said she allegedly took advantage of moments when the homeowner was distracted to remove jewellery and other items from the property.

The victim filed a formal complaint after noticing that several valuable items had disappeared from her home in Soi Krungthep Non 7. Police launched an investigation and identified the housekeeper as the prime suspect based on access, opportunity, and subsequent checks. Evidence was gathered and an arrest warrant was issued before officers moved to detain her at a rented room in Soi Tiwanon 46.

During questioning, Ms Sangwon reportedly confessed while in tears, initially claiming she acted on impulse. She told police she needed money for daily expenses and to help care for her grandchild. However, investigators said further questioning revealed she was heavily addicted to online gambling, particularly slot-style games and had lost significant amounts of money.

Police stated that the suspect admitted stealing from an employer who had treated her well for many years. The stolen items were allegedly pawned to obtain cash, leaving only pawn tickets and some remaining valuables to be recovered. Officers described the case as a breach of trust involving a long-term working relationship.

Daily News reported that Ms Sangwon has been formally charged with theft in a dwelling. Police said she has been handed over to investigators for further legal proceedings in accordance with the law. Authorities confirmed that the case will proceed through the judicial process.
