Police in Lop Buri province rescued a four-year-old boy after he was assaulted by his grandmother's boyfriend and abandoned in a forest. The boy, named Pipo, was found injured and exhausted near Pho Ngam Temple School. His grandmother had reported him missing the previous day, prompting a search operation involving local authorities and volunteers.

Pipo's grandmother, identified as 57-year-old Banjong, informed the Chaibadan Police Station about his disappearance on January 26. Immediately, a search was launched with the help of rescue workers and local residents. Volunteer divers searched a nearby pond, and coordination with officers in adjacent provinces was established to locate the child.

On January 27, police and rescue teams discovered Pipo in the forest, displaying severe scratches, a head wound, and signs of severe exhaustion. CCTV footage identified Banjong’s boyfriend, 31-year-old Armin, riding away with Pipo on a sidecar motorcycle and returning alone, making him the prime suspect in the case. Initially, Armin misled family members by suggesting a kidnap scenario involving a black pickup truck.

Upon further questioning, Armin confessed to assaulting Pipo. He admitted that he became angry when the boy cried after falling from the sidecar. Armin struck Pipo's head against the vehicle until he lost consciousness and, believing the boy had died, left him in the forest.

Armin’s mother, 65-year-old Sri, reported her son's suspicious behavior to the police. He had mentioned the possibility of the child being in a forest, leading authorities to search the precise area where Pipo was found. Armin now faces charges of attempted murder, with possible penalties under Section 288 of the Criminal Law including the death penalty, life imprisonment, or a prison term of 15 to 20 years.

The boy was immediately taken to the hospital for necessary medical care as the investigation continues, reported The Thaiger.
