I abhor capital punishment. Rotting in prison in more appropriate. The patriarch knew what was coming. Wonder where the Ming money went.

My guess is that other than the people that were profiting from the criminal enterprises, very few people are going to miss these notorious gangster creeps.

Even as a Centrist Democrat I'm very fond of capital punishment when there's enough evidence, and it seems like there was a mountain of evidence against these heathens.

Having said that it seems like the punishments that are handed out by the CCP are highly selective when it's more than like likely that nearly all the members of The Politburo are fabulously wealthy and corrupt.

And it would sure be nice to see them hand out the same punishment to the leaders of the Burmese junta!! They richly deserve to lose their lives as quickly as possible.

A good friend of mine is an academic from Taipai. Many years ago, we were discussing the case of Nick Leeson, the trader who brought down Barents Bank, essentially through fraud (to cover losses incurred after a trainee he was supervising made mistakes). He went on the run, got caught, went to prison in Singapore. We were discussing the sentence.

I thought at the time the sentence was appropriate; a white collar criminal, it wasn't the worst crime in the world. My Taiwanese friend had precisely the opposite view. He thought Leeson should have been executed, because of the harm to society he had caused (people losing their savings). There was the difference between East and West.
