A 36-year-old man died after a cable became entangled around his neck while he was riding his big bike home on Hua Sai–Bua Khao Road in Bang Khla district, Chachoengsao province, on 10 February 2026. The incident occurred at around 20.00, with police from Bang Khla Police Station responding to reports of a fatal crash. The victim, later identified as Mr Thotsaphon Panya, was found lying face down in a pool of blood in the right-hand lane of the road.

His Suzuki GSX 1000 motorcycle, registered in Bangkok, was discovered overturned in the ane on the opposite side. Investigators were told that a cable had fallen onto the road before the crash. The cable reportedly caught the victim around the neck, causing him to lose control and fall heavily.

According to witness Mr Thanaphon, a local resident, a straw-laden lorry had earlier stopped at the scene after appearing to become entangled with overhead cables. A man was seen cutting or manipulating a cable to allow the lorry to proceed. Two motorcycles had also previously struck the dislodged cable but were scooters and their riders were able to maintain control of their vehicles.

Mr Thotsaphon’s larger motorcycle, however, was unable to be controlled once the cable caught his neck. Witnesses said he initially stood up in a dazed state and attempted to cross to the right-hand side of the road to seek help. After reaching the opposite lane, he collapsed face down and died from severe bleeding after the cable had torn open a major blood vessel.

The victim’s employer said they had just parted ways at Wat Phra Phikanet before the crash. Mr Thotsaphon, originally from Nakhon Ratchasima, had moved to work in the area and met his fiancée at the temple. He had planned to marry on 20 February, just 10 days after the accident.

Police reviewed CCTV footage along the route and later detained the driver of the straw lorry, Mr Surachet, 44. He initially denied travelling on the road where the incident occurred but later admitted to driving from Lat Bua Khao to deliver straw to Wang Sombun. He stated that the cables were already tangled and hanging low and that he instructed a worker to use a forked stick to lift them so the lorry could pass, fearing a potential vehicle fire.

Mr Surachet said he did not know how the cable came to fall and strike the victim. Police are continuing their investigation. ThaiRath reported that at the hospital, the victim’s fiancée embraced his body and told him to rest in peace and return home, in scenes of grief just days before their planned wedding.
