A serving police captain has been ordered to be suspended from the service pending investigation after surrendering over an alleged armed robbery at a cannabis shop in Pathum Thani. The case centres on a 11 February 2026 raid in which 800,000 baht in cash and more than 100 kilograms of dried cannabis flower were taken. Arrest warrants were issued for five suspects on charges of jointly committing armed robbery using weapons and a vehicle.

According to investigators, the group allegedly presented a court warrant before entering the shop in Bang Khu Wat subdistrict, Mueang district, Pathum Thani. Authorities allege they then seized the cash and cannabis before fleeing the scene. The Pathum Thani Provincial Court approved arrest warrants in Criminal Case No. 90/2569, dated 12 February, for five individuals.

Those named are Pol Capt Pongpol Kaewkoon, aged 47; Sawan Chai Chulert, known as “Bas”, aged 39; Amphon Numkrud, aged 35; Kritsadaphat An, aged 24; and Anusak Srisad, aged 39. Pol Capt Pongpol, a Deputy Inspector (Investigation) at Sutthisan Police Station temporarily assigned as Deputy Inspector (Administration) at Division 2, Metropolitan Police Bureau, surrendered on the evening of 13 February at Mueang Pathum Thani Police Station. He reported to Pol Lt Col Sirawit Chaiyawan in accordance with the warrant and was accompanied by Pol Sub Lt Manop Kaewken, aged 54, who does not face an arrest warrant and Sawan Chai Chulert, who also surrendered.

On 14 February 2026, Pol Lt Gen Siam Boonsom ordered Pol Maj Gen Kiattikul Sontinern, Commander of Metropolitan Police Division 2, to appoint a disciplinary investigation committee into Pol Capt Pongpol. He is accused of committing a serious disciplinary offence and has been formally charged with armed robbery using a vehicle to commit the offence, transport stolen property or evade arrest.

Two formal orders were signed, including Division 2 Order No. 58/2569 suspending him from the service pending investigation under the 2004 Police Commission regulations and Sections 105, 131 and 179 of the National Police Act 2022. Authorities stated that allowing him to remain in office could cause damage to the service, as he is entrusted with maintaining public order and suppressing crime. The order takes effect from 13 February, the date of his arrest and detention.

Manager online reported that the remaining suspects are still being pursued. Under Section 141 of the National Police Act 2022, the officer has the right to appeal to the Police Civil Service Commission within 30 days and may file a case with the Administrative Court within 90 days of notification.
