Yet another act of kindness

Featured Replies

Yup, yet another act of kindness.

Long-time members might recall that I posted in December 2020 about some nice people who gave me a ride home at around 4:30 AM when I ran over a piece of glass on my bicycle.

I was out this morning, cycling as usual, when it happened again. I have a few routes that I take in the morning and today was the short one at 20 KM. I was literally at the farthest point from my house when I noticed something shiny on the road; I swerved but was too late. Effing broken glass on the road, again. <deleted>.

I steeled myself for the long walk back, but within three minutes a pick up truck came by, slowed down and gave me a questioning glance. I lifted my bike to show the flat tire and the young couple immediately gestured for me to get into the back of the truck, pausing only to ask where I wanted to go.

It was simply a really nice thing to do. Worse, I asked myself if I would have stopped like they did and the honest answer is that I don't know. For what its worth, after receiving such incredible kindness twice (TWICE!!!) I will in the future.

I am writing this as there is so much anger, discord, rage, etc in the world right now that it is important to remember that there is also fundamental goodness that needs to be publicized and celebrated.

I stopped posting on the Forum a while ago, but thought that this needed to be shared. We who live in the island know the fundamental goodness here, but I hope that those who visit can see through the fog of the tourism business and see the reality as well; it s a beautiful island with wonderful people.

Cheers all
