Gprs Auto Disconnect (when Idle) On Windows Mobile 6?

Recommended Posts

Hi

I own an HTC Touch which runs MS Windows Mobile 6. ActiveSync syncs with the Exchange server every 15 minutes, which means GPRS *should* get turned on for that particular time, then *should* be disconnected when the device is done syncing. However, this doesnt happen.

Does anyone know how to make a GPRS/EDGE connection disconnect when idle, for example 1 minute, on Windows Mobile? I've spent an hour looking for it today with no hopes!

Thanks,

Pavee

Haven't found this either, on none of the widows mobile versions!

Basically the lack of this option is a result of the fact that in most countries they bill GPRS access by data transmission, and not time!

So for those people it's not important to disconnect their gprs, it doesn't cost anything anyway as long as no actual data is being transmitted.

Thailand is one of the very few places (the only I know of) where they bill gprs access by the minute, regardless wetter there is data being transmitted or not.

For us this auto disconnect would be brilliant. It does connect automatically when a program tries to access the net, but no disconnect afterwards...

I haven't tried this out as I have yet to pick up my dopod but on some research, this looks promising:  http://www.freewarepocketpc.net/ppc-download-htcustom-v1-1.html

Make sure to read through the comments as there's some requirements to install latest .net etc to make it work.  Hope it helps.

I found a small solution to do it, but its far from perfect because it doesn't measure the amount of the time the data transfer has stopped, but measure from the moment I connect (thats what it seems to be!)

The thingo is called GB-Soft and adds as an extra icon in the 'system' tab of 'settings'.
