Djalili: UK should seize ayatollah’s properties

Omid Djalili, the British-Iranian comedian, said the British government should seize the assets of Iran’s new supreme leader, Mojtaba Khamenei, including his extensive property portfolio in London,

“People are not seeing these people coming in from the West to create regime change,” he told Times Radio.

“Look at the new supreme leader. We’ve just found out that in Britain he has properties worth £250 million pounds. And when the Ukraine war happened, the British government were very happy to get rid of Roman Abramovich and get rid of Russian oligarchs and seize their assets. Why haven’t they done that for this regime?”

OK. Illegally bombed Iran in an illegal war of aggression. The UK is not at war with Iran, there is no basis to confiscate Iranian assets in the UK.

It makes you wonder where those billions from Saddam Hussein and Muammar Gaddafi ended up. Maybe in some banks in Switzerland, London, New York or Tel A Viv? Did they ever invested a penny from that money to rebuild the countries they destroyed? It might explain Jeff Epstein's fortune.

You're right they didn't invade perhaps I should have said attacked from a distance even out of range of reprisals in some cases.

To invade they would to have had some guts and a backbone. Something the IDF in particular is sorely missing.

A perfectly legal act under ‘The doctrine of Counter Measures’ following Russia’s illegal war of aggression against Ukraine.

who cares about any "basis" any and all of his properties should be taken from him and used to house homeless british people , with military veterans at the front of the queue, No decent minded person could object to that. So naturally, of course, you probably will

"illegal war" (of aggression, ? ) it would be a strange war without aggression

illegal war ? a phrase as meaningless as "international law"

It might not be possible for a while , wasn't it taken over for ramadan celebrations last year? but as far as i'm concerned why not confiscate all football staduims and use them for the homeless to pitch their tents in ,, These mega rich clubs do little to support their local communities, the areas surrounding Anfield and Goodison in liverpool are an absolute $h1thole

The IDF has shown plenty of guts and backbone, fighting almost constantly for 78 years against huge odds to defend the people of Israel. Since the founding of Israel on May 14, 1948, the IDF has fought in the following wars or major military conflicts:

  • 1948 Arab–Israeli War (November 1947 – July 1949)

  • Palestinian Fedayeen insurgency (1950s–1960s)

  • Suez Crisis (October 1956)

  • Six-Day War (June 1967)

  • War of Attrition (1967–1970)

  • Yom Kippur War (October 1973).

  • Palestinian insurgency in South Lebanon (1971–1982)

  • 1982 Lebanon War (1982)

  • South Lebanon conflict (1982–2000)

  • First Intifada (1987–1993)

  • Second Intifada (2000–2005)

  • Israel–Hezbollah War (2006)

  • Gaza War or Operation Cast Lead (December 2008 – January 2009)

  • 2012 Gaza War or Operation Pillar of Defense (November 2012)

  • 2014 Gaza War or Operation Protective Edge (July–August 2014)

  • Syrian Civil War and the Iran–Israel conflict during the Syrian civil war.

  • 2021 Israel–Palestine crisis or Operation Guardian of the Walls (May 2021)

  • Gaza war or Operation Iron Swords (October 2023–present)

  • Israeli invasion of Lebanon or Operation Northern Arrows (September–November 2024).

  • Israeli invasion of Syria or Operation Arrow of Bashan (2024–present)

  • Twelve-Day War or Operation Rising Lion (June 2025).

  • 2026 Iran war (February 2026–present)

In addition, the IDF has fought in dozens of smaller-scale military operations since 1948. You can see the complete list here: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Israel_Defense_Forces_operations

The Entebbe Raid in 1978 to rescue 106 hostages held in Uganda is one of the most daring military operations of all time. It couldn't have been carried out without the IDF having more guts and backbone than just about any military force in the world.

Unfortunately for your argument, if that’s what it is, the law requires a ‘basis’ on which to legally seize property and wealth.

No decent minded person could object to that.

‘Illegal war of aggression’ has a very specific meaning under ‘international law’.

If ignoring that fact gives you comfort who am I to object to you posting nonsense on the matter?!

Neither Israel nor the USA has invaded Iran. Neither has annexed territory and claimed it for themselves.

Neither has been looting homes or kidnapping children for reprogramming in their country.

The UK can seize proceeds of a criminal conspiracy. The UK just doesn't want to deal with the fallout of the Iranian Republican Guard investment portfolio of the estimated US$1 billion in the UK.

For decades, the Ayotollahs and their families and friends have been siphoning off profits from the country. The Iranian Guards are sanctioned. They have laundered their assets through the UK and the EU.

What about Armenia ? The world has been supporting them for ages but much of the trade Iran is doing with the other parts of the world, transit through the northen iranian border with Armenia. Yet nobody pipes a word about this.

Actually Everton do more than most clubs and have one of the Premier League's most highly regarded community programs: Everton in the Community. More than 120 full time staff and 160+ volunteers doing work in health, employability, anti-social behaviour, crime, education, dementia, poverty, youth engagement, youth justice and disability. And of course loads and loads of sports programs.

Yes, the areas around the grounds are poo-holes but Everton do fantastic work for the community. 120 full time staff is no small operation.

It is, after all, "the people's club".

A wise decision on their part. IDF recruits get a lot of training in hand-to-hand combat.

So the rich should help the poor. Didn't know you had turned socialist.

All clubs, plus the EPL and EFL, have community programmes btw.
