Street Fight in Patong Draws Attention on Busy Nightlife Strip

A late-night fight between two Thai women on Soi Bangla in Patong was caught on video and spread online. Reports said the dispute was believed to be over customers in the nightlife area. The footage showed a verbal clash turning physical in the middle of the street. A foreign bystander stepped in and tried to separate the pair while calling for the confrontation to stop. The incident triggered criticism online because it unfolded in one of Phuket’s busiest tourist zones.

I’d like to add some context and clarification to this footage as I was there.

First, the camera angle really doesn’t capture the full story. What appears to be a chaotic altercation was actually a highly sophisticated dispute between two extremely svelte, attractive, and clearly well-educated women.

The subject of the disagreement was, of course, the last chicken McNugget.

To clarify: this was not random aggression. It was a complex negotiation that unfortunately escalated when both parties independently concluded they deserved the nugget more.

One side cited “I paid for the meal.”
The other side countered with the well-known legal doctrine of “I called it.”

At this point diplomatic channels collapsed.

I’d also like to note that several bystanders attempted to mediate by suggesting the nugget be split in half, but this radical proposal was rejected by both parties as “barbaric.”

Eventually the situation resolved itself in the traditional way: the nugget hit the floor and nobody got it.

A tragic but important lesson in the fragility of civilization.
