No, I'll end up homeless if I return to the UK.

If they were gonna give me free accommodation, food, entertainment and health care, I might consider it.

A380 or a rubber dinghy makes all the difference.

An astonishing and really quite disturbing post. He was first convicted in 1999, sentenced to 4 months for possession of indecent images. You think that was a harsh sentence. Don't worry, he served 8

Sorry, don't care, He's a harmless old guy, show a bit of compassion. Which is worse, an old guy shooting missiles at Arab countries, or an old guy looking at dirty pictures on his phone?

So an old guy shooting missiles is your reference baseline for what is acceptable and what isn't. I wouldn't let them see whats on your phone.

Gary Glitter had the misfortune to be born as a national of the UK, had he been born Australian he would have been treated much more leniently. The infamous "Lux", aka Mathew David Graham, who propagated "Hurtcore", ie much more extreme child pornography where the children were physically harmed and also killed, received a paltry 15 years in jail, with parole after 10 and is now eligible for parole.

How Australia saw fit to give Matthew David Graham a mere 15 years is anyone's guess. Fellow Australian Peter Scully was also fortunate to be tried in Philippines, where there is no death penalty, I suspect the US would have dealt with him much harsher.

The guy will have no life outside. Just keep him in, cheaper as well.

Surely killing people is worse than looking at photos?

Indeed pixel crime is not harmless. Abusing pixels (by looking at a them) is worse than war crime.

Strawman. Some gormless berk on this thread tried to compare the perversions of Gadd with something entirely different in a weak attempt to excuse their liberal view of child abuse crimes, and their sychophants jump onboard.

You have a sick view of the world. You've attempted to deflect from a liberal view and simplistic view of paedophiles where you have attempted to argue what they are doing is "just" looking at "dirty photos" with a false conflation with geopolitical events in the world.

Gadd went back inside to serve the rest of his sentence because he was trying to get on the so-called "Dark Web". He wasn't content with "photos". These perverts find each other, and commission others to live stream abuse. In your world that's a harmless, victimless crime.

Perhaps Gadd should have been hanged.

I’m not really comprehending the down votes

I like to read bio’s of English rock stars. The more obscure the better. The drummer for the cure had a great one. As did buster Bloodvessel.

Chiang Mai is like the elephants graveyard of such books, particularly the lost bookstore. Every single two tone act wrote a book that didn’t sell and it seems to have ended up there.

Gary‘s definitely has that as told to kind of writing style, but he seemed remarkably un bitter for someone who’s trajectory up and down was so fast.

Without him, Joan Jett would not have had a career. That’s a pretty small potatoes boast, but his single US released album was pretty much filler-free.

Had he managed to keep his demons in check, he would be at the level of say, Donna Summer’s, but for Glam. He could’ve toured solo and never had to join a package tour forever.

Thankfully Ian Watkins never got around to writing an autobiography explaining what a hard life he had, to explain why he thought sexually abusing a baby was "Mega Lolz".

No, I argue that after 15 years in jail, and confined to a wheelchair, he is no longer a threat to anyone.

Where you support the mass murder of innocent women and children and the murder of unborn babies.

Seems to me you are the sick person

If you were some saintly person dabating about redemption and forgeivness from a place of virtue then your argument such as it is might carry some weight. But your are patently not and so it is indeed a strange hill to die on and one that will inevitably lead to ponderings about your motives.

Sir Keir is looking for a new advisor and ambassador if you come out Gary🤔

It was a different world back then. All pop stars were boffing young lasses, who generally would have hidden their age. Just more 2tK's classic double standards that Glitter is banged up yet Townsend and the rest are free.

Elvis & Jerry Lee Lewis actually married kids yet their legacies are intact. Can the hang em high brigade pls explain?

Do some research halfwit. Did they all go to SE Asia to abuse 11 year olds? Yes, the 60's/70's abusers were somehow allowed to get away with it. Girls on TOTP who were allowed to go to studio recordings by their parents. Jim'll fixit etc.

I'm not sure whether you are incredibly stupid or just doing a really good impression of someone who is. Perhaps there is something more sinister behind your comments?

What a horrendous post!

You spend most of your posts on AN supporting anything that Trump does no matter what and now you come out with support for Glitter and other paedophiles!

It sums you up in my opinion!

EH, ? Jerry Lee Lewis got refused entry to the UK and was banned .

His Rock and Roll career stagnated and he moved to the Country music scene ., which was more acceptable to that kind of thing

I was in no way supporting Glitter or any pedos. I was pointing out a blaring double standard. Every single pop star from led zep to the beatles were tearing through young groupies, yet only Glitter gets done. Townsend who i mentioned was caught downloading kiddy porn and was mysteriously let off.

No idea why you insist on making every issue personal. V weak and childish, but you do you🤣

Public protection is not the only reason for jailing individuals, although who's to know whether Glitter no longer presents a danger to young children in some perverted way; there are also the elements of rehabilitation, deterrence and punishment to consider.

Glitter reoffended when released and looks past rehabilitation. Unfortunately, there are others like him at large and imo a strong deterrent message needs to be sent. Wrt punishment, I find it difficult to have much sympathy for Glitter and to use the old saying, 'He's got what he deserved'.

I agree with @Effective altruism ; he should spend the rest of his days in a cell.

I liked his music

I saw the glitter band without him in the early aughts. He definitely had the tunes.

I saw him and the Glitter band in 1981. For sheer entertainment, It remains one of the best gigs I've ever been to.

The Glitter band were excellent musicians and a very tight backing band.

Stephen Hawking is in the Epstein files. There is a picture of him surrounded by girls having a drink...

I doubt if any of the super groups from the 60's, 70's or 80's were asking to see birth certificates of any of their teen groupies. Wonder how many were left pregnant after these groups left town?

Gary Glitter bangs a 14yo and goes to jail for life (historical).

Bill Wyman bangs 13yo Mandy Smith and no action taken (historical).

Rolf Harris bangs a 14yo and goes to jail for 5 years (historical).

Hugh Edwards takes and distributes photos of 3 different children and gets 6 months suspended sentence (current).

There's no logic I can see here.

Rubbish.

What about the charge for sex with a girl under the age of 13?

What about the molestation in Vietnam of children aged 11 and 12?

The attempted rape of a child under 10 years of age in 1975?

Regardless of your selective posting, do you have an issue with Glitter being sentenced harshly or the others you mention leniently? Be interested to hear your thoughts on this.

I do think there was a time when rock groups were virtually untouchable as far as having sex with underage girls. If young groupies were happy to bonk their rock idols it just wasn't questioned.

Ah, these two Vietnamese 11 and 12 year old children in 2006 were big Gary Glitter fans.

Got it............
