Proposed Plans to cut Visa-Free Stay to 30 Days

Featured Replies

Welcome news.

Anything to cut down the crime, scammers, and those using loopholes.

Next stop should be to toughen up the long term visas - too many loopholes that have been left open.

The RTP and immigration are not doing anything. It are the worst institutions of the country. there is no enforcement of any law, and they only start to do something when there are complaints. The immigration is outdated. How often pics are being made for entry, re entry, visa, and copies of passports, with the newest 90 days reporting. Why not scan everything, make a digital file in a proper working national program, that can be search for air, sea and land entries and departures. What is the use of TDAC if the immigration doesn't know where or how long long people are staying??

Last time I was at an immigration office and people were send bck to Bangkok because a hotel did not fill in the papers for immigration, and the immigration told the tourists to go back and arrange it with the hotel first. How can you ever be feeling welcomed as even mistakes from Thai you have to solve??? and if you give comment the immigration will tell you that they can refuse your extension/re-entry or whatever... N o wonder that people don't follow the rules. people don't like to be treated as criminals

Yeah, fairly recently, a friend has told me that he personally witnessed someone being sent back from the Immigration place in Lak Si, Bangkok, because of the reason you wrote above. He was apparently told to go back to his hotel and come back with the TM 30 form for his extension. The thing is, as far as I know (folks, please correct me if I am wrong), the requirements listed online as necessary to get the 30-day extension to visa exempt are three forms, a photo, a copy of the all-important passport page and 1,900 baht. TM 30 form is not even listed.

Well, if the visa exempt period is reduced to 30 days (and, sadly, it looks like it will be), I wonder what will happen to the extension period on it. I hope a 30-day extension will still be available. I am guessing it will be. Anyway, if I have to go for an extension, I will make sure to have the TM 30 form too with me. I guess everyone should do so, in case.
