I've certainly changed in the 22 years I've been living in Pattaya. I was becoming less of a barfly anyway, but Covid and the loss of two of my best friends really seems to have made me lose interest

We have all changed no doubt, but the place has changed dramatically. From a standpoint of nightlife Thailand is a pale shadow of what it once was, for single men the quality of available women is a p

It's a circle and I guess it is also depending on age. SO different circles.

Now getting older seeing different and it is "harder to cope".

Memories involved to bring it up, but then you lived another time with other perspectives.

You were younger then. Some things you miss now and others you would like to forget.

One effects the other, you change and your feelings change to situation.

Situation changes and your feelings change and therefor again situation.

And it also is with people.

You liked (or not) it in past, but not in present and therefor change.

You should forget memories, past and then everyday is new. Problem solved?

Nasty thing is , getting older, memories of long time ago pop up and you think

ah why I did that like that or how could it happen, also gives a change in perspectives.

But you were in another circle then. Not the same as now.

Changes can be there every day. My first wife is still alive, I changed the way of thinking.

So how big is the change in your mind and how are you handling it?

Maybe ignore and make everyday a new day. Oooooom.

So your not like the other farangs ,living in shoebox flats in say the Nirun Condominiums or Flybird Condominium

You actually have a garden , beautiful

So the rest of us live in a shoebox except for the one person you sent the comment above to 😃

I live in a three bed detached house in Phuket in a secure housing estate, garden etc. 130 sq metres of internal living space, that is enough for two people.

Not that I use the garden as too uncomfortable in the heat, the missus loves gardening though.

In reply to the author of this article , you will be the one who has changed not Thailand, I also go out less but out of choice as I got older.

When I was younger and I pulled young women, they were my age (I do not mean bar girls) so they were with me for my charm etc, if that happened now I know it would only be the sized of my very big bulging wallet, not as much fun. 😀

A lot of guys though do seem to believe the young woman is with the old man due to charm etc, he is convincing himself and his ego ether deliberately or the young professional has worked her magic on him, I do laugh when I see such a scene, it is wallet driven and nothing more.

Why do you think everyone lives in a shoebox condo / flat ?

I don't know anyone that does. All the expats I know, live in nice detached single house, some on nice lots. Only person I know living in a condo is daughter & fiancé, and only because young, and want to build equity in their homes, rentals, they bought.

Of course, both Thailand and I have changed.

What people who have only been coming for 20 years cannot begin to comprehend is that it was so wild west back then, that stories of what went on seem utterly implausible.

But these people never knew a time when you got "hardship money" from your western company or investment bank to have to go and stay in the <deleted>hole that was Thailand. Yes, you read that right, as well as all the expenses overflowing expat privileges at that time, you were also additionally compensated for having to go live with the savages.

Can you see how guys with expense accounts and in real terms unlimited money might have gone overboard and ventured into serious hedonism ? Yes, everything was possible for pennies.

Today, that lifestyle would kill me but whilst I may never get past my first box of beer on an evening anymore, nevermind getting into my third box of beer, I'm never going out reading a book on the porch in my nappy waiting for someone to bring me a cold drink.

If the body starts to give up, I'll have one last blast around the fairground and then be off to the next life on a good slug of barbiturates.

Right now, I'm doing fine but looking for Miss Right to help me waste some of my kids inheritance.

Be careful, writing positive and true comments on this blog will leave you susceptible to the miserable thumbs down brigade, I know cos they get me now and then, but they do make me laugh. 😃

Has Thailand changed, well yes in a way, it now contains more old faring moaners than it did before but if they are ignored and avoided then we will not feel any change has happened. 👍

Nah, we just have a few trolls who like to post a thumbs down on mostly everything they see. Anonymity makes them brave! It might be a past slight too......be flattered to get the attention!

How miserable must one be to be a serial thumb down person.

When I first came here, it was all pretty predictable.

Nights out, bars, always somewhere busy. That was the routine.

It's a healthy option, if you didn't change you'd be dead, out drinking most nights. 🍺

I reckon it's only the nerdy guys who haven't changed as they never had nights out drinking. 🤓

Yes, agree.

I reckon it's the miserable members who are the serial thumbs down guys.
