Worked until mid 50s, did go back for a while delivering mail and packages at 59, but they worked us like dogs and had one day off to feel like a zombie. Workdays were 12 hours long. Sundays was delivering Amazon packages all day long, sometimes over 110 stops then getting chewed out for not finishing on time, or getting back and being sent out again to deliver more.

I'd rather have time than money and keep very busy at home. More hobbies than I need. Recently did a road trip to the southwestern USA for about 10 week and saw the sights around AZ, NV, CA, UT. That was fun, and future trips maybe impacted by the cost of fuel.

Thai wife and I will relocate to Thailand one day when she gets tired of working. I certainly can keep busy there.

Where are you ,in America?

Shocking the way this Amazon treats it's couriers ,I hear it's the same in Australia

I worked past 60. I think most people do. But I stopped a few years later.

How many of you are still working past 60?

Either in your own home country or south east Asia!

And I say South East Asia instead of Thailand because this forum is South East Asia not just Thailand and it's for everyone.

But I will get back to the topic , even after my last one month visit to Pattaya , mostly staying in Airbnb condominium etc I couldn't stay in that day to day life doing....nothing .

I need to work , to do something and this folks is why I ask many of you

, I watched YouTube videos of several old farangs who had retired to Pattaya and even Philippines, yes I did mention another South East Asia country didn't I ....didn't I ..other than Thailand, but BOUGHT business's for something to do

The Candy Club in Pattaya the farang near 80 retired to Thailand and bought it , another the Irish In Bangkok O learys a retired American police officer bought it after retirement at 65

So I soon found out by doing my study that I would buy a one bedroom condo in Pattaya, rise every morning at 7 am ,going to gym , swimming pool , ....then what ?

. absolutely boring

So now I'm thinking I can't stop working and doing nothing , I should take my retirement package and .....do nothing ??

Sit my the pool in some Condominium block in Pattaya doing nothing ......as the Texan guy said ....hell no....boring as bat<deleted>

Oh please stop trying to force people to retire

Serious question. Do you post a new topic everyday?

Seems to and somehow gets past the low value post filter.

Still teaching at nearly 66, although mostly online now. I want to keep my work permit for as long as I can. Especially as I have a young family.

I'm 68 and still work, not full time, I do about 3 months consulting total a year, maximum 4 months. That's mainly SE Asia, Malaysia, Laos and Indonesia, though I sometimes review projects in Africa. I enjoy my work but I've been semi-retired the last ten years, I find it makes for a nice life balance. I'll only give it up if I feel I've become part of the problem rather than the solution.

If you painted those pictures, you are a real artist. I used to do oil paintings in my younger years, but gave up when I moved to OZ and started my own business, which I ran for over 20 years.

early 60s, retired, in receipt of pension, working part time, don't need the money, work on my terms, stress free, love it. life's good.

don;t drink, don;t smoke, don;t need bars, have friends, hobbies, in short, have a life.

Total opposite to the geezer in your profile photo then.

In middle age/old age/retirement just about everything depends on how well you've furnished the insides of your brain in earlier decades.

I worked in the US until I was 49. I then decided I was moving to Thailand for good and did so. I never would have considered working in Thailand but I got a job offer that what's too good to be true. I accepted the job and worked in the field at two different venues for 15 years before finally retiring for good. Would never consider working past 60 that's my situation anyway. I liked the work I was doing here still I was happy to retire from it. Need a few years to relax before I take that dirt nap

Promised the wife that when we were done I'd bring her back home to Thailand.. after 12 years

I packed it in at 64. sold properties, vehicles, musical instruments and set my son up for his university adventure

only 1 regret ,, I didn't do it sooner

@ 71 that leaves me about 30 more years to have the best times of my life .. and boy am I busy as hell doing anything I like

I am 70 and still working.

Per my contract I am a full time, salaried worker.

Most of the year I work less than 40 hours a week but still get paid the same.

Sometime I think I would like to quit and just live off my pension.

But I like having the extra money, in the US I would not work for this rate of pay, but here it pays my rent and utilities and my transport to and from work.

I am not trying to get promoted at work, it is pretty stress free so that helps.

I know I would not be bored if I wasn't working but I do enjoy my work so...

I understand this approach - I love my work and really cannot imagine not working

A close friend retired at 50 having done well financially- he returned to work after 9 months - I asked why- he said there was not enough to keep his brain occupied and he got bored with his hobbies very rapidly

I retired in my early 50s then worked part-time at the same job until age 59, when I moved to Thailand in 2010. In America, I was doing condo fix-ups on the side while I worked and I have continued that in Thailand with my spouse. We have since moved on to building houses, with one currently under construction. I like to keep busy and I am doing what I enjoy. And, there's always enough time to do other things we enjoy, like travel.

Not long now. My job is taxing and I think times up. If I had a physical or simpler job I can understand continued work. As a cleaner in your 60's in a hospital do you really want some young guy telling you there is a big mess to clean up on Ward 4. If you can have the right attitude then I guess you can keep going but maybe you need to retire and force yourself to find a life whatever it is.

That does not sound like "a good job", lol! On the positive side you snapped out of it early and living your best life in Thailand which is beautiful! Speaking of - other than painting (I have negative talent) - what are other hobbies people have? Personally I have a flexible job and a lot of free time, but I usually only spend it going out drinking or wasting time online (like now! haha). The drinking and socialising I do enjoy, however it's not healthy long term and I spend ridiculous amounts of money going out drinking 4-5 nights a week. But if I stay home too long I go nuts and that's not healthy either. I'm 100% a night owl so things like golf or anything else that requires you to be outside in the sun are a hard no.

I have been at my job 30 years on nightshift, I only see one other person and depending who they are we may chat

.but I often worry who would put the cleaning room products in alphabetic order if I wasn't there

Cleaning items such as mops etc need to be put in colour coded racks and hung straight not crooked

I was teaching Science 'in-class' in Myanmar until just before the earthquake in Mandalay last year. I was 66 years old. But also since 2018 I have been teaching Science 'online', mostly to young students in China. I continue to teach for typically 3 hours/evening for 6 days/week, because I enjoy teaching Science :) That online teaching provides a very nice and regular income to add to my UK state pension.

In June, I'm due to start a new weekend teaching job 'in-class' at the first school that I taught at in Yangon in 2012. I'll be 67 years old.

If you like employment (especially when you are your own boss), why should you stop working?

You'll be teaching in Yangon again? I'm out of country just now, so am not sure of the war in Myanmar. Plus I'm planning to teach English online to Chinese people. Any advice for Yangon and teaching Chinese people online? (I taught in Chinese universities until I was nearly 70.)

So what do you do with the other 7 hours and 50 minutes a day? Besides mop I mean.
