Antisemitism in Real Life

Featured Replies

Several threads on AN are devoted to antisemitism. The AN search function turns up 4,500 references to antisemitisms and derivative words like antisemitic and antisemite. Clearly it's a topic of no small interest.

But aside from theoretical discussions about what is or isn't antisemitism, Jews in every country live in the shadow of antisemitism. How does hatred of Jews manifest itself in real life, other than a few posts on AN?

In 2024, the Anti -Defamation League tabulated 9,354 antisemitic incidents across the U. S. This represents a 5% increase from the 8,873 incidents recorded in 2023, a 344% increase over the past five years and a 893% increase over the past 10 years. It is the highest number on record since ADL began tracking antisemitic incidents 46 years ago.

Let that sink in. Antisemitic incidents have increased nearly tenfold in a decade. The U.S. is home to 7.6 million Jews, about 40% of the world's Jewish population. The trend is similar in almost every country that has a Jewish population; antisemitic incidents have risen sharply.

Once again, the world's oldest hatred is showing its true colors. I'm going to list some of these incidents, based on press reports. It's testimony to the discrimination and mistreatment Jews face for no reason beyond irrational hatred.

Most of the incidents described below trace back to this article: https://www.msn.com/en-us/news/world/jewish-life-in-europe-j-accuse-never-again-is-a-lie/ar-AA1ZB0QN?ocid=msedgntp&pc=W230&cvid=69c7920ff0324776a7c3f183446db35f&ei=14

So who exactly are these anti semites and what is their motivation?

It's not easy to say who they are, but their motivation is always a hatred of Jews that has no rational basis. In the U.S., antisemites have ranged from top politicians and industrialists to homeless vagrants. Entertainers and sports stars in the public eye have sometimes revealed themselves to be antisemites, as have fringe religious groups like the Nation of Islam. Auto maker Henry Ford was the foremost U.S. antisemite of the 20th century.

There are prejudiced people all over the world.

Antisemitism is one form of that, just as racism and homophobia are others.

A lot of it comes from scapegoating, conspiracy thinking, ignorance, and people looking for someone to blame for social or political issues.

It's also not limited to one class, race, or ideology. It can come from the far right, the far left, religious extremism, or just plain ignorance.

Could the increase have anything to do with the arrest warrants out against Israel politicians, including the longest serving Prime Minister Netanyahu, by the International Criminal Court for war crimes and crimes against humanity?

Could it have anything to do with the following recent poll?

I believe there is a probable link.

"85% of American Jewish adults believe it is important for the U.S. to support Israel"

It's actually beneficial to be a Jew in the USA.

Even assuming Netanyahu is guilty of war crimes, what does that have to do with any Jew who was victimized in one of the incidents listed in the OP? Why should Jewish school children in Michigan be punished for Netanyahu's crimes?

No, I don't believe most antisemitic incidents are caused by Jews answering in a poll that they support Israel. But there's a certain link to another of the poll's findings- that 93% of those polled "saying that antisemitism is a problem in the U.S. today."

In any case, it is totally wrong for anyone to harass or assualt Jews simply because they say they support Israel. Supporting Israel doesn't necessarily mean they support the Netanyahu government. It could mean they support the existence of Israel as the homeland of the world's Jews.

In Western democracies, Jews are free to express support for Israel or even the Netanyahu government without having to fear viggilante-style retribution for their beliefs.

I agree with you that it shouldn't but am suggesting there is a link with Israel's recent actions in Gaza and current continuation of illegal settlements in the West Bank.

Do you think they are not related?

I think they may be related in the minds of deluded antisemites, but they are not related in any real way. Antisemites have simply seized on Israel's actions in Gaza as an excuse for expressing their hatred of Jews.

From ChatGPT

Jews are the most accepted minority in the United States, reflected in both public attitudes and strong representation in national institutions. For example, there are around 10 Jewish members in the U.S. Senate, compared to no Muslim senators, highlighting a significant gap in political representation. This is notable given that the Jewish population in the U.S. is of a similar order of magnitude. Despite comparable population sizes, the higher level of representation and integration of Jewish Americans is frequently cited as evidence of their relatively high level of acceptance in American society.

This is a heated topic but at least attempt to discuss it rationally. Unfounded accusation of antisemitism have been removed. Don't use it as a pejorative or it will be removed. Bickering posts with name-calling have been removed.

Honestly, if you can not calm down and discuss this like grown-ups perhaps its better to close the thread. I'll let it ride for now.

Everyone - calm down.

Seems like Jews can do what they want without retribution. They can comit genocide and if you dare to criticise them then you must be an antisemite!

The accusations of genocide concern the IDF, which has 169,500 active duty members and a reserve of 465,000, making a total of 634,500. Are you claiming that the 7.8 million Jews who live outside Israel are in some way responsible for the actions of the IDF?

Yes ,all for one and one for all.

An estimated 58 countries have Jewish populations of 100 or less, with some having no Jewish citizens or long-term residents. However, no country is thought to be entirely devoid of Jews when short-term residents, such as university students and those working for transnational countries or international agencies, are counted.

One more example.

Six charged with hate crime after allegedly attacking Jewish student from University of Pittsburgh

"The Department of Justice (DOJ) announced Monday that six men from around the Pittsburgh-area have been charged after it says they attacked a Jewish student from the University of Pittsburgh in 2024."

Two sentences in the article convey a stark warning:

"The verbal confrontation began after the group saw the student’s Star of David necklace, according to the DOJ. The yelling was followed by a physical altercation, which left the Jewish student with “bodily injury that included physical pain, a split lip, and headaches.”

Things have gone way to far when people are targeted and subjected to physical abuse solely because they are wearing a religious symbol.

You are either ignorant or pretending to be.

The powers that be have deliberately blurred the lines in order to keep people from criticizing Israel's policies. There is no clear distinction between criticism of Israel and antiemitism. It's done deliberately to silence people.

The resurgence of Nazism, after all Hitler and his wrecking crew were socialists and cossied upto Islam ...and they have the nerve to call anyone and everyone that doesn't agree with them Nazis...how ironic is that. Corbyn, Abbott and so many other labour politicans have been sacked for anti semitism

The accusations of genocide are leveled against the Israeli state, of which the IDF is a military agent, the IDF are enacting the genocidal policies of the Israeli state.

Significant numbers of dual nationals holding Israeli citizenship who live elsewhere in the world have gone to Israel to serve in the IDF and take part in the genocide.

Many within Jewish communities outside of Israel support Israel’s genocidal war.

Many within Jewish communities outside of Israel oppose Israel’s genocidal war.

Singling out Jewish communities outside of Israel for abuse and/or attack is unacceptable, but it is not something that arises purely from ‘antisemitism’.

Does antisemitism play a part, yes of course it does.

Does the Israeli genocidal war against Palestinians play a part, yes of course it does.

But it’s clearly not all antisemitism just as it’s not all anger over Israel committing genocide.

There is a difference between antisemitism for world war 2 and reality in 2026. For example everyone hates or dislikes you, as well Israel, for a very good reason, today. Playing this stupid joker card that was give to you guys for way too long is not gonna change that.

In fact your own rabbi's and core elite even wanted this to happen, it's even in the bible. You guys always <deleted> up again and again, to then be destroyed and history repeats. The entire prophecy of the end of times is about this.

How can you even get the balls to talk like this after what you recently have done is equal to what happened in WW2 to you guys, while you break all international rules on top, bomb hospitals, murder children and attack water and energy plants now on top + killing 40 medics. Israel is doing exactly what defines a terrorist state and group.

Your cry baby propaganda isn't gonna work anymore. In fact, the behavior of Israel only steers people to think Hitler had a good point.
