I think I'm not the first one to make light of thread that takes depressing turns. I read what you wrote. That in itself doesn't appear to be a sad event. So why would you attach a sad song to it? Some people take the time to describe why it is a sad song to them, especially if the song doesn't speak for itself. I asked a pertinent question.

Not wanting to derail the thread, I get the feeling that people may perhaps process their emotions differently.

Some of the songs I heard aren't really sad at all to me. So it's likely comes down to the actual event to which they attach the song.

There are some songs that may bring a tear to my eye, I might not even know why initially. That's okay. It's not a bad thing if someone asks me why. I may choose to not talk about it, but that doesn't mean the other person is bad for asking.

I might have posted such a song myself, but they cannot be found on YouTube.

For once I have to agree with you.

This song I would never consider as a sad song, though tears would pour over my face, every time I watched it as the closing scene of the Dirty Dancing movie. And I have watched that movie at least 10 times by now.

My girlfriend's father was a funeral director in an alpine country. They weren't poor and rubbed shoulders with the 'elite'.

Base jumping can be a walk down a dark road, lit by brief highs. I’ve lost 67 people I knew through the sport, out of maybe 300 of the most active at the time.

And that’s not even counting skydiving, climbing, motorbikes, or all the other ways people died outside the sport. There were suicides too, and plenty of stimulant and drug abuse in those circles.

It comes with the territory, and with the kind of people drawn to that life. After a few decades, there are only a few ways out: injury, death, being forced to stop, or walking away while you still can.

It took more than a decade before I started seeing names I didn’t know after I quit.

One of the songs from my teens, could not stay, could not leave thing, and today I smile of it. Good memories after all. No idea how she end up in her life.

Another one that hit hard once back in the past, and pushed the buttons. Not sure it is the artists self, but it made a long lasting impression, and I remember the song today after all these years.

In My Life, Judy Collins, and Leo Kottke, A Tiny Island. Both songs have meant something to me in the past.
