Is this just a bargirl thing or are they all the same.?

Have the aircon blasting away while totally ensconced in a thick duvet.

Irritates me anyway.

Many of them grew up dirt poor with only a dodgy fan at best. So now they want to milk the foreigner's AC for all it’s worth. Plus, the AC on 20 is possibly the closest many of them will ever come to

Stupid having a thick duvet, get rid of it, i just use a duvet cover, temperature 26⁰ works

Not just bar girl but typical Thai experience from my family. Talk about it but never get a logical response.

Live with it, move to the other side of the bed.

Am fairly confident that Iam not a bar girl.... but, yeah AC on 20 degrees whilst snuggled up under duck down duvet.

Over the years I have moved all my possessions here from the UK. The same UK that swelters in 15 degree celsius summers. Thus all my quilts were winter proof and now furnish my bed here in Thailand. I can attest that 24,000 BThU air con is no match to a 15 togg quilt

Easy fix. Don't spend the night with bargirls.

Why are you playing sleepover with a bargirl. Do you cuddle and spoon throughout the night.

Plus, the AC on 20 is possibly the closest many of them will ever come to experiencing cooler weather in the Western hemisphere, and no passport required!

My thoughts pretty much, just wondering what a consensus of opinion would show.

Can't do without my duvet. Can't do without air con when it's hot. Can't see the problem.

Ask Gamma. Apparently 16 degrees C and starkers is what he does.

When I arrived in 97 that's the way it was (and for a very modest fee) and that was the way it stayed for a very long time. Nowadays a massage is more suitable as is going home unaccompanied.

Thais only do this in homes (or hotel rooms) where a farang is paying the electric bill.

As everyone should have realized by now:

The manufacturers of AC-remotes would NOT have included the setting 16-Degrees C if they had not expected us to use this setting.

Also, one duvet is not adequate during the Hot Season, if the bedroom is between 16 and 18 degrees.

I use one wool blanket, and one duvet.

The duvets sold in Thailand are not really warm enough for me.

Also one does not need a bar girl to set the AC at 16 degrees.

Why would you want anyone to know that you have a common prostitute in a bed under a duvet? If it matters that much, ask your family members. I am sure they are in a much better position to assist.

I like the weight of the duvet... they now do someo sort of Bamboo material duvet that adds weight.

But, I also need the warmth of the duvet because the Wife has the AC on -20... or it feels like that.

I like 24-25 deg setting - she likes 22 deg which I find is too cold... Wife wins.

It always struck me as strange how cold Thai's like it in the Cinema - I long ago learned to take a jumper when watching a move in Thailand.

Thai bashing racist comment.

There is also a scientific reality - a better nights sleep is had at a cooler temp - 18.3 deg C is the ideal setting.

No place colder than a Thai Bus traveling from BKK to CM, during any season.

In my experience, this is partly true. I don't think it is 'milking the farang'. My wife grew up in a modest family with no aircon. When she started spending the night at my place, she would enjoy the aircon very cold and snuggle under the quilt. I saw it as 'binging' on a luxury which was inaccessible to her for the first 25 years of her life. The novelty quickly wore off though, and nowadays (15 years later) she often turns off the aircon and prefers the fan…

Bloody freezing those VIP buses, sweatshirt indispensable…

22 is definitely too cold for me too. In any case, a humidifier makes all the difference to compensate the air dryness. Game changer.

Inaccurate, snarky mouthed individual.

Yep, 27° is the ideal temp for me, usually turn it off around 4 or 5 am and open the fan.

Just another cliche brainless move of certain Thais. Never met one sensible Thai that does it. From a health perspective it is never smart to begin with to have a AC difference of more than 5-7 celcius over the real temperature too.

Solution very simple, tell the girl to take care the electric bill and she will magically use 95% less.

I run a 15 TOG duck down duvet, it goes good.

Letting your old persona shine through a little there Bob !

iI doesn't help that their bodies are literally opposite of ours.

Whenever I'm hot and put the ac on, she is cold and enconcinates herself in the doona.

Whenever shes hot and puts it on I find it just normal or cool.

Why is it stupid? Just because you don´t think the same?

Some people like to have something over them when sleeping. It may be because they are cold or that they just feel comfortable with the weight, or that it´s just something they always done and are used to sleeping with.
