There are huge health benefits if you go to the sauna 3-4 times a week. What I would like to know is how you cool down afterwards in Thailand.

I mean, heating up is not a problem, but it’s equally important to cool down properly. So how do you do it in a hot climate like Thailand’s?

    You can buy one of these liquid-cooled chillers. Just cool down a large insulated room to minus 50-degrees C. And then create a large sauna enclosure next to it. You can go from cold to hot to cold,

I walk out of my house and I'm already in the sauna, why would I deliberately go to a place that's even hotter than that?

Like what? Every other day seems a bit much to me, once or twice was fine when I worked in Finland/Sweden.

A cold shower and a few nice cold cans would help cool down.

went to a japanese sauna once.

they have ice baths

or take a cold shower.

Contrast therapy.
Infrared sauna 15 mins 74C
Cold plunge 3-4 mins 4-7C

Repeat

Shower in between

Honestly I end with a cold plunge and Im cold walking home with a sweatshirt.

Maybe tiny benefits but huge? I think a health influencer is messing with your mind. I would bet the benefits are comparable to walking up a flight of stairs.

After a workout going in the steam room for 2-3 sessions feels awesome. Sometimes the sauna if it's heated up properly. I usually go out and sit to recuperate, cold shower and back in the steam room or sauna. You either like it or you don't. Just one of the perks of a nice gym.

The whole sauna and ice bath combo is utter nonsense invented by hipsters - it may offer some placebo benefits to muscles but nothing more. Not a single ioata of evidence to suggest it does anything.

Explain to me then how you know cave men knew what they were going through was healthy? I mean back then they walked on all 4's too ... daft sausages.

A sign of a good condo is whether they have a sauna and if they do whether they maintain it rather than leave it to die after it breaks down.

Give me a synopsis of how going from Sauna to a cold dip works to improve health .

The benefits are the same as exercise. Saunas and ice baths are just an expensive jog which is free.

There has not been a single sauna in Thailand I have been to that did not have an ice bath (usually, a block of ice in a water basin; block ice is cheap enough here to do this); so this would not be a thing to worry about.

What you do is mke sure that there is a bar with very cool aircon and cold beer nearby and get out of the sauna straight into the bar and skull 2 big bottles of icy cold Chang. That will cool you down.

In this Thai heat, a sauna mind is the opposite of a sound mind. LOL

Circulation improvement is the root of several of its recovery benefits. Increased blood flow promotes healing in a couple of different way, it increases oxygen to the area, shuttles in nutrients and white blood cells.

Then there's the anti-inflammatory benefits of the cold which works to reduce swelling or other micro inflammation.

The heat on its own stimulates fibroblasts....to a lesser degree than something like ultrasound or radio frequency therapy but the heat still works to do this if done consistently enough.

Of course this is all contingent upon having a system that is in a state where this will benefit. If you're a couch locked turdski with layers of visceral fat, you probably need a lot more than a sauna and cold tub to get you started down the road. Its complimentary therapy to a well rounded training and nutrition plan

Ive trained over 35 years and have been in sports (baseball, wrestling, hockey) since before there was internet. Every locker room I was ever in had a massage table, a sauna, an ice machine, and a stainless steel tub.

Apparently so :) What does the above have to do with their health benefits? I think that is what the guy you replied to was getting at. The benefits are probably tiny if anything at all. I have an ice bath but seriously doubt it does anything but cool me down which it does very well for hours after getting out. My joints also feel great as they do after putting an ice pad on them but that wears off.

If there were no health benefits, which have been documented throughout this thread, then I doubt the practice would continue for 7000 years or more, and be practiced now in about every country in the world.

A sauna is a bit more than an ice bath. It's about using extreme heat with low humidity, before cooling of very quickly in an ice bath.

Exactly my point! Sitting on the couch humming a tune while watching a lizard on the wall while sipping tea would accomplish the same. I bet if you had a shot of whiskey in stead of a thirty minute sauna, for a year, you would be just as healthy. Sauna is easy and people like easy vs doing the things that really matter.

Really, so on your couch you get temperatures of between 85 and 100 °C with low humidity?
