Phuket Garbage Solutions

Featured Replies

The Office of Phuket City plans to build a power plant using garbage with private company investment.

The plan was presented and discussed with the Phuket Governor Nirund Kalayanamit. The group led by an official from the Phuket City Office Mongkol Song-khao comprised representatives from Sepgo Asia Company, PTT and Power Production Company. The electrical generation factory is to be built on an old land fill site near Saphan Hin where the incinerator is located. It will turn the waste into electricity and at the same time reduce environmental problems. Some parts of the land will be turned into a public park. The power plant will have a capacity of 20 megawatts production. It is expected to require 800 million baht to build. The plan design is being detailed.

Local governments in Phuket are to be key agencies in mobilizing the waste management on the island

An integrated waste management program focusing on the sanitation standards will be actively mobilized in Phuket with local sub-district administration offices in all three districts as key agencies. The Phuket Vice Governor Worapoj Ratasrima along with a representative from the Provincial Environment Office signed a Memorandum of Understanding or MOU with local administration bodies in all 3 districts of Phuket, including the Office of Phuket City. The vice Governor stressed that the MOU will lead to sustainable solutions for future waste management on the island. This would include waste separation, reusing-recycling and public awareness campaigns.

MiniVDO: Bio-organic composed fertilizer in Phuket’s Bor Kruad community contributes to waste reduction on the island.

To see or download mini-video, go to ThaisNews

The bio-organic compound process turning organic waste into fertilizer is being carried out in Ban Bor Kruad community of Thalang district of Phuket. The product however cannot feed increasing demand as the villagers have been working on a voluntary basis. It takes three months to produce 400-500 kilogram of the organic fertilizer and 1,000 litres of liquid. The community has now been allocated 350,000 baht from the province’s budget under the ‘Well Being & Happiness’ program to purchase equipment in support of their operation. Phuket is campaigning for reuse and recycling of material and organic waste to alleviate the island’s garbage problem.

It will turn the waste into electricity and at the same time reduce environmental problems.

<deleted>? what do they think will happen to the toxic smoke and sooty particulate matter?

I can't see them investing in the necessary smoke stack scrubbers. It will be interesting to see where the heavy metal residue ash will be dumped.
