Hungarian prime minister Viktor Orban has conceded defeat to the pro-EU Tisza party, in a pivotal election set to herald in a new era of relations between Hungary and Europe.

With 45.7 per cent of the votes counted, the pro-EU opposition Tisza party is projected to win 132 of the 199 seats. Results are still coming in - but Orban’s 16-year tenure is set to come to a close.

Opponent and Tisza leader Peter Magyar said on Facebook that Orban phoned him to congratulate the party on winning the election.

Voting booths closed in Hungary at 7pm local time (6pm BST) after around 77.8 per cent of of the Hungarian electorate cast their ballots, smashing the previous record of 70.5 per cent in 2002.

Another great victory for Putin, Trump and the fascists. Seems the people of Hungary have more intelligence than average American voters, who elected Trump, twice.

Don't forget that fat turd the US president. He sent JD over to meddle in their election. And in one of the most stunning public displays of hypocrisy, JD's message to the people of Hungary was "Don't let foreign powers meddle in your election process."

Truly stunning!

Orban lost, which was a major omelet on the face of Vance and Trump, and the people are taking out the trash. Good on them. Great result. Trump's prospects continue to dim. Bye bye Don.

People of Hungary will regret this.

Soros will be happy too.

Unbelievable that people on this forum are cheering this.

No matter how much you criticize the USA, never forget we’re more successful and wealthier than your continent.

Broke his record as far as I'm concerned, before this one my fave was "hey! you said there would be no fact checking!" said to an interviewer.

Anyway, don't expect O-man to go lightly, I'm sure he has some sort of connection network to his fascist ideologues and soldiers. Beware of falling bodies if under a balcony. Smear stories. Guys waking up with dead hookers in their beds and a TV crew outside the room.

Believable. Many here favor mass immigration for Europe and plenty gold toilets for Z and associates.

Virtue signaling.

For me, Orban gone is a sad day. At least the AfD is doing well in Germany...

Trump will be on the phone to Hungary now asking the election commission to find some more votes for Orban.

No what is unbelievable is that people on this forum are lamenting his loss, and still supporting the circus clown in Washington.

Good idea. It's been mentioned in enough outlets for a while now.

It needs a name, how about The Damien Effect ?

Are you an European? Thought you where from Australia ?

Orban´s defeat is a win for Europe, and also a clear setback for Trump, Vance, and Putin. It comes after a long period of threats toward Europe, repeated insults, and open hostility wherever they turned their attention. Instead of breaking Europe, they have helped push Europe — and especially the Nordic countries — into closer unity than before. So in that sense, thank you, Vance and Trump. Orbán was voted out after 16 years in power.

Reuters reported the result as a major blow to both Russia’s position and Orbán’s allies in the Trump camp.

Alot. It is just one more demonstration of Trump's waning influence, and increasing irrelevance throughout the world. People are finally waking up.

Something seems to have escaped all the political "observers" concerning the Hungarian elections.

Over the years, Orban has "cemented" the Hungarian constitution. Cementing his policies.

In order to implement reforms (political new orientation) the Hungarian constitution will have to be re-written.

But this can only be achieved by a parlamentary majority of 75%.

So, the only question of importance is: Does the winning party have a 3/4 majority in parlament?

I believe it does.

A 2/3rds majority is needed, not 75% and Tisza has the numbers. Happy Days.
