Statements from the opposing parties are inconsistent, so best we wait until both sides are on the same page. Iran says the Strait is open during the ceasefire, which ends on the 22nd. We'll see what happens after that.

Among the many things Trump has said is that "the entire world was laughing at the US a year ago". I checked my calendar and Google, and one year ago---April 2025---the POTUS was a guy named Trump. Thus, given that brain fart or evidence of dementia, best to wait until we see both sides are on the same page, as one should be skeptical of anything spewing from Trump's increasingly addled brain.

That the Strait might be open reminds me that on 27 February 2026 the Strait was open, so reopening it just brings us back to the status quo ante. So all the bombing and killing got the world what? What it already had.

Let's be wildly optimistic and assume an absolute best case scenario, aided by Pakistan, a nation anxious to get the Argentina Treatment ($40 billion from Trump) so it won't default on its international borrowings. Let's assume the Strait stays open. Let's assume Iran even agrees to limit U235 enrichment to 3.5% and maintain a maximum of 300 kg, for use in medicine and research.

That sounds like a pretty desirable outcome, which would make most people quite happy.

That would also be the JCPOA enacted by Ben Rhodes and the Obama Administration back in 2015. It would be deja vu all over again, as Yogi Berra would say.

So it seems the entire war---all the killing, all the destruction, all the money spent, all the grief and angst across the world, all the concomitant inflation---was merely so Trump could put his name on a JCPOA, the same way he loves putting his name on buildings.

Had Trump just kept the 100% effective agreement the man who lives rent free in Trump's head had scored, he could have done with it what was intended by the JCPOA's architects: use it as a stepping stone for further negotiations on things like halting support for Shi'a terror groups, initiating domestic reforms, etc. I'm sure Obama, being more confident and secure than Trump, would not have minded if Trump had renamed the original JCPOA as the Trump-Obama JCPOA. But that wasn't good enough for Trump's fragile ego. No, people had to die needlessly for the greater glory of the insecure little man-child Trump.

So only because of Trump's woeful insecurity did all the killing, all the wasted money, all the destruction, and all the grief take place.

Frankly, that is criminal. It is the old saw of an arson lighting a fire and demanding praise when he puts the fire out.

Perhaps the reason some people are so quiet is that they see MAGAs applauding like trained seals for the arson, and realize the cult is in so deep, it cannot even glimpse at reality.

There was a ceasefire agreement. Iran was to open the Strait during the agreement, but they did not, due to the bombing in Lebanon. Bombing stopped and they opened the Strait. Not really rocket science, but it seems that you needed it explained to you anyway.

I know I am at odds with most here, but I do not think Iran should have been permitted to continue developing their nuclear warhead and intercontinental ballistic missile program, and I am happy they have been taken to task for it.
