Trump blasts ‘useless’ NATO response

Donald Trump mocked a British-led plan to patrol the Strait of Hormuz as “useless” after Iran declared the vital shipping route “completely open,” easing weeks of disruption that sent global energy markets into turmoil. The US president lashed out at NATO allies, including Keir Starmer, saying they had failed to act when it mattered and were now offering help too late. “They were useless when needed, a Paper Tiger,” Trump said, adding he had told them to stay away unless they wanted to “load up their ships with oil.”

Oil prices fall as Iran reopens strait

Iran’s sudden announcement triggered an immediate market reaction, with oil prices dropping around 10 percent and stock markets rallying. The Strait of Hormuz, which carries roughly a fifth of the world’s oil supply, had been partially shut for weeks during the escalating conflict, fuelling fears of a prolonged global energy shock.

Ceasefire link — but risks remain

Tehran linked the move to a ceasefire in Lebanon, where Israeli strikes on Hezbollah had intensified tensions across the region. But despite the declaration, uncertainty remains over how safe the route actually is. Shipping sources warned that risks persist, with concerns about mines and ongoing military activity leaving many operators reluctant to resume normal transit.

Starmer and Macron push naval mission

Keir Starmer and Emmanuel Macron said Britain and France would lead a multinational mission to safeguard shipping in the strait once conditions allow, describing the effort as defensive and necessary to stabilise global markets. However, questions have already been raised about the plan’s credibility, particularly after delays and technical issues affected recent Royal Navy deployments.

Fragile calm as talks continue

Trump, while welcoming the reopening, claimed Iran had effectively agreed not to close the strait again, though he insisted US naval operations would continue until a broader agreement is secured. Reports suggest Washington is exploring a deal that could involve limits on Iran’s nuclear programme in exchange for sanctions relief, though Trump said no money would change hands. Despite the apparent breakthrough, confusion on the ground and deep mistrust mean the situation remains fragile, with the world’s most critical oil route still far from secure.

This whole trump operation is useless. It did help the defence industry though and some people made a lot of money.

Anyone getting mocked by Trump these days should wear it as a badge of honor.
