North Korea’s Nuclear Arsenal Now Beyond Control, Experts Warn

North Korea’s Nuclear Arsenal Now Beyond Control, Experts Warn

Korea Missile.jpg

The global system meant to contain nuclear threats on the Korean Peninsula has effectively collapsed—leaving North Korea operating as a nuclear power with no meaningful oversight.

That’s the stark warning from analysts following fresh concerns raised by Rafael Grossi, who revealed new construction at Yongbyon likely tied to uranium enrichment—potentially expanding Pyongyang’s nuclear arsenal.

No Inspectors, No Control

The core problem is brutally simple: no one is allowed in.

The International Atomic Energy Agency—tasked with verifying nuclear activity—has had zero access to North Korea since 2009. There are no inspections, no samples, no on-the-ground checks.

Instead, intelligence is based on satellite images and educated guesses.

That means the world is no longer verifying North Korea’s capabilities—it’s merely observing them.

Arsenal Unknown

Estimates suggest Pyongyang holds dozens of nuclear weapons, but even that is little more than guesswork.

There is no confirmed data on how many warheads exist, how advanced they are, or how ready they are for use.

In blunt terms: one of the world’s most dangerous military capabilities is being tracked without certainty.

Decades Of Drift

The situation didn’t emerge overnight.

US policy—under multiple administrations including Donald Trump—has swung between bursts of diplomacy and long stretches of inaction.

Since the collapse of the 2019 Hanoi summit between Trump and Kim Jong-un, serious negotiations have vanished—while North Korea’s weapons programmes have surged ahead.

Military Power Growing

In that vacuum, Pyongyang has:

  • Developed more advanced intercontinental ballistic missiles

  • Shifted to solid-fuel systems, making launches faster and harder to detect

  • Expanded cooperation with Russia, including military ties

The result is steady, unchecked progress while diplomacy stalls.

South Korea Shifts Strategy

With no realistic path to denuclearisation, South Korea is changing course.

Rather than pushing talks, Seoul is strengthening its own deterrence—backed by the US—including plans for a nuclear-powered submarine programme.

It’s a clear shift: from trying to stop North Korea’s weapons to preparing to live with them.

System Broken

Even the international framework designed to prevent nuclear spread is now hollow.

The watchdog exists. The treaties remain. But without access, they no longer function.

As Grossi put it, monitoring via satellite is now “the maximum possible.”

A New Reality

The conclusion is unavoidable: North Korea is no longer a problem to be solved, but a nuclear reality to be managed.

There is no verification, no control, and no immediate path back to either.

What remains is a dangerous stalemate—where the weapons grow, the oversight shrinks, and the world is left guessing.

The "experts" ?

The same "experts" who thought that America would tackle Iran in 7 days ? Oh year, we get it. Or the same "experts" under Obama and Biden who allowed Iran to develop a lethal underground arsenal that is putting the US Army to Shame ?

Sure...let's see what "the experts" have to say...

The US nuclear arsenal is out of control. Abolish nukes, you idiots. The US should start first, showing a moral imperative.

ALL nuclear arsenals may be out of control but for any one of the big powers to give their weapons up would redefine the principle of MAD to MADNESS!

Bull<deleted>. If the US dismantles its nuclear arsenal with full UN inspection, no other country will launch a nuke because, to do so would jeopardise the whole world.

The US would become a model for rejecting nukes, with other countries to follow.

Nice fantasy you have! China, NK and Russia would nuke them!

It's quite amazing to me that almost no one believes there can be peace. Believes that no war has really achieved its goals and there must be a better way of doing things.

Britain and France should go first. They are far more moral

Study history. Never been peace. Muslims hate muslims. Catholics hate other Christians. Germans hate the French. Brits hate the French. French hate the French.

The world is full of haters.

Don't know if I would prefer to be

nuked by Iran or NK !

Which you prove time and again with most of your posts!

So far, not one of your commenters want to think outside the box. To consider peace possible.

You grew up in a war world, thus as it ever was. I don't want that for my children and grandchildren.

Maybe one day, one country will get a leader who has a dream, a dream of no MAD. When he disarms his country, perhaps we'll all be blown to Kingdom Come or perhaps a few smart guys will follow suit.

What a convincing argument. Show us one

It seems to be ok for North Korea, ok for Israel, but not OK for Iran. Makes sense? Seems reasonable?

You can think what you want but you have no control over the world. So many old guys on here wasting their lives hating on Trump and Israel. 5 to 10 years to live. They should be scuba diving, ballooning etc

Well, that's one way to wave the white flag.
