US navy mine hunting going on in Hormuz

Featured Replies

With Iran possibly having mined the Strait of Hormuz, it has been confirmed that the US Navy is deploying autonomous systems in an effort to assess and then clear the mine threat.

This will be a major test of autonomous mine countermeasures capabilities in a very demanding operational environment.

The appeal of unmanned systems for this mission is straightforward – risk to human life is minimised. The willingness to accept attrition of robotic platforms is acceptable, as they can be absorbed and replaced. UUVs could potentially conduct surveys of the shipping channels in a few days that would be able to either locate mines for disposal and restore confidence to shipping.

This is a low value post that adds nothing of value to a very similar post previously posted by the OP on the 13th April:

There are various threads on the forum discussing supposed/actual American mine hunting capabilities. This adds nothing to previous discussion, and merely serves to deflect from that. The OP would be better off using the search function if he has forgotten his own previous thread on the exact same subject.
