Will you continue using AI if you must pay the true cost?

I haven't a clue what this is all about.🙃🙃

No. I don't use AI, and I find AI to be distasteful, and I do believe that it's a huge step backwards for mankind.

Society is slowly but surely marching backwards towards the second Cro Magnon era.

Did you watch the vids I attached to this Topic?

They might just resort to advertising in that case. Facebook Instagram Twitter etc all free still.

The big step backward for mankind was the portable smartphone we all carry every day. In many ways, it ruined something.

At the same time, I do not want to go back to personal contact with every public office, bank, or official institution every time I need something done. I can do my taxes online, sell an apartment with a digital signature, and handle practical things from my iPad. That kind of convenience is hard to argue against.

Everything is much more fluid now, especially when living in or travelling to Thailand, or anywhere else, while still being connected to your home country.

Just imagine going back to the old way, or to how many things still work in Thailand, where you often have to run from one office to another just to get small practical things done.

When that is said, I appreciate AI. It is great, and now I would not want to live without it.

I already pay for AI, and I find it great for digging deeper into history, science, and philosophy.

There is already too much free information being put out by humans online that I don't have enough time to watch.

Also, more and more Youtube channels are being generated by AI -- again, free content. And some of it quite interesting content.

I will not pay for anything unless I need to do some work with an AI tool, but I ain't working.

Here is an AI channel based on Feynman, the physicist. Quite good free content.

Why do you think I prefer the countryside or the coastline, instead of living close to too many people?

I sleep better, I feel better, and natural sounds do have a real effect on the nervous system. They can help calm the body, reduce stress, and improve mood. That can also affect stress hormones, sleep quality, and how you feel during the day.

I do not need AI to tell me that. My body already knows.

Free AI is fine. Great tool.

Less concrete is good for you. Less toxic people is good for you.

Yeah, you sound like someone whose brain chemistry has been (positively) altered by the sounds of birds chirping in Isaan.

But now people can dust off their Physics books and get the exact science behind it from Feynman AI.

They find words on a screen. They would never find me in a gym or beach as they never do anything. Paradise exists in Thailand. It ain't in the large cities. It ain't on a farm.

It is not only a Isaan project, it is a pattern, a lifestyle, a life I have lived since I was born, and always seek wherever I go.

I do not use ai free or otherwise.

I find its injection into my life offensive, csannot wasit for the ai bubble to burst.

It might burst but like the internet it is with us for many years to come. How you would find it offensive is odd. Do you mean that way some people use it to be offensive? I can do many do many tasks that would take hours and be a mess in 1 minute with AI and the output is incredibly easy to digest.

I use it several times a day.

For example: Should I add salt to a marinade ? What will be the evolution of US support for Israel ? When will China overtake America ? How can I incorporate fresh ginger into my diet ? etc.

I don't see this service becoming a paid service, even in the medium term. It will be subsidised or indirectly funded by advertising and the success of the Organizations that provide it.

Not sure what you are getting at here when I clearly stated 'These companies will eventually have to monetise their products due to the vast investments they have already made...'

You are correct in that AI companies will not be able to continue to bleed.

So, when they charge you the REAL COST of using AI, will you still be....On-Board?

Google still has the best strategy.

Google, still, must separate AI models from ads.

Otherwise, the conflict would be counterproductive.

What seems like the most likely outcome is that OpenAI will fail financially. ChatGPT could get taken over or absorbed by a competitor. Anthropic could face a similar fate, although it seems more likely to survive than OpenAI.

So the AI space could end up being reduced mainly to Google and possibly Grok. I don’t think either of those will fail for various reasons. Apple could also end up buying OpenAI or Anthropic and rebrand one as their own AI product and eventually part ways with the upcoming Gemini integration into Siri that is scheduled for later this year.

If companies like Microsoft can’t make their AI services profitable, they may just walk away. Big tech companies are known for dropping projects that don’t work and moving on. Meta just did something similar with the metaverse.

So the situation is fluid and evolving. Some companies will fail, some will survive, and others will merge. I don’t think there will be a total collapse of the industry because the corporate need for AI as a product is real and still growing. The most likely failure, in my view, is OpenAI. The rest will probably adapt, find ways to monetize, or shift direction.

The “AI bubble” might not end in a dramatic crash. It could instead play out as a series of mergers, adjustments, and repositioning.

Let us please wait and see.

As of now, probably nobody knows what will happen by next year.

We will know far more by.....May 5th, 2027.

Dear Folks,

For some time, as I have mentioned, I have wondered whether or not most people will be willing to pay for the true cost (cost per token) of the AI services they actually use.

Now it seems that Microsoft, at least one major player, is making the shift to begin charging users for the real cost of the AI services each customer uses.

According to most information we read, at this time, most AI companies are hugely subsidizing the cost of the AI services they provide to their customers. How much longer can customers expect a free lunch?

How much would you pay for AI?

I pay per month for AI, as part of my Google Drive subscription.

But I have always asked myself whether my monthly subscription payment actually is enough to cover the GEMINI AI Services that I use. I haven’t a clue, because Google has never told me the real costs of providing the Gemini AI Services, which are also embedded in Google Search, and much more, such as Google DOCS, and Google SHEETS.

Seems to me that this transition in order to have customers actually pay for the cost of what they use each month, or by tokens used, will be a game changer….

Do you think this is correct? Or, do you believe in Free Lunch for Everybody?

Here are two excellent vids from ED which speak to both the cost issue, as well as whether people even like AI as much as Sammy-Boy mistakenly believes.

Happy viewing….

Best regards,

Gamma

I suspect the same logic might have been applied to Google's search engine once upon a time, and could also have been applied to their free business applications (Docs, Sheets, etc.). Google (Alphabet, the parent company, strictly speaking) didn't suffer long term, did they?

For the conspiracy theorists, there's another possibility: give the users free access until they find it indispensable, then place a charge on it. Many will pay.

Feel free to imagine whatever you might like.

But, your imagination has nothing to do with reality.

AI will in time prove to be the biggest mistake the world has ever seen.At the moment people see it as a fun novelty but already cracks are starting to appear with false information and that it is spitting out and we are only in the start up phase. Not to mention loss of jobs when we get to the stage where the unemployed lines are a mile long then the penny might drop. I would never use AI nor would I pay for it with it with stolen money.

Same with my GMail. The AI is superior to WikiLeaks.

If it is helpful and provides a good ROI for my business, I will (like all technology I invest in) pay according to the savings/efficiencies it makes. Not so bothered about personal use but if I'm buying it for the business then it'll probably come with personal use anyway.

Somewhat presumptuous for someone who doesn't know me, isn't it?

I consider social media to be the most destructive force in contemporary culture today.

Children are growing up now in a world where they expect immediate response, gratification and notification. Their brains no longer have time to evolve; they must adapt to change in an instant, and the results are distressing. The difficulties of growing up have never been so public. Social technology provides a platform where things can run wild.

Imagine the stress of high school – the competition for popularity, the pressure to fit in, the judgmental nature of social activities – at an accelerated pace.

We try to protect our children from wandering off into the darkness on their own, and it turns out they are doing exactly that – online. When they get older and “ready,” we send them off to college, where they face more pressures. But social media has an infamous dark side and the more people share, the more serious this side becomes. As it turns out, living your life online has serious consequences for your self-esteem, your relationships, and your career prospects.

Be careful asking it if something's edible 🙃. Refer Celsius's post above.

I agree, however AI could have been correct stating that the mushroom was edible. Some mushrooms are edible for certain animals, but not humans. Asking AI if the mushroom is edible for 'humans' might solicit a more accurate response. Not that I would trust it with my own life.

Well, if you are not a subsidized military-government contractor, then you will not be using Sammy's product.

Yet, STARGATE does have a ring to it, for infantile minds.
