And most will rip you off and sell you things that were not needed. Also, many do a poor job. Hence the request for recommendations.

The dealer for your make/model is the best bet. They will have or be able to obtain the necessary parts if it's a clutch or bearing problem. And if it's a leak in the refrigerant they are more likely

Jaded we are.

Wow no replies... the only one I know of is in Bahn Amphur /Na Jomtien and I used him well before the Covid debacle struck so don't even know if he is still there..of course there are many places all over Pattaya you may just have to take pot luck or maybe ask a dealership if they can recommend someone.

A very helpful Aussie Youtuber Jason of Goodvibespattaya (@gmail.com) would be able to help you directly or point you in a recommended direction. He is decades in motor trade and his site is all about cars and he has a small garage biz himself............

How many AC repairs have you had done? Me personally I'd go to a dealer.

The dealer for your make/model is the best bet. They will have or be able to obtain the necessary parts if it's a clutch or bearing problem. And if it's a leak in the refrigerant they are more likely to find the leak and repair it, rather than simply re-gas it and send you on your way.

Labour costs are cheap here, and a dealer is obligated to follow the manufacturer's technical literature to diagnose and solve the problem. Don't waste time with a third-rate chop shop to save a few hundred baht.

My Toyota dealer always gives me a 5 page list of recommended additional "suggested repairs" when I get a regular service. I usually respond with thanks but no thanks to most of the suggestions. But some I will agree to after I've managed to translate the paperwork. Their suggestion to give my brakes an enema did improve my stopping distances considerably.coffee1

BP Auto Services. They have good reviews. I will try them. Thanks.

And yes indeed, Roadrunner is jaded, and not without reason.

I had my Honda done recently at B-Quick - did a great job.

Returned from BP Auto Services. It was beyond their level. We did however learn that we have gas and no leaks. The problem is electrical and/or to do with the compressor clutch failing to engage. Electrical..... you ever seen a car with 5 separate fuse and relay boxes?

I hear ya.

I do all my own mechanical work, for AC once iam done I go to B-Quick for a re-gas.

Toyota's have at least one but the new Ranger definitely has a couple.

Two things needed for the a/c clutch. One is 12 V DC, and the other is activation. If you use Google to find the "Hayne's" manual for your Jag, discovering the source of either will help the less-qualified mechanic find the cause. It could be a switch, a relay, a fuse, a sensor,or the clutch coil itself. Finding replacement parts may be the biggest challenge but once identified, eBay can be a treasure trove.

Good luck.

Just as a matter of interest, what did you have done? My Civic needs a top up every year. Must be an incredibly small leak for it to last that long. The place that tops it up just suggests replacing this or that. I would prefer a place that can do a leak check and identify the right component.

Did they diagnose the condenser with a leak check?

'The dealer for your make/model is the best bet.' I disagree. I take my 12 year old Honda BRV once a year for a service to the dealer opposite the now defunct Ambassador Na Jomtien. Each year (for the past 6) I politely decline the offer to have my A/C unit serviced (on the grounds that if it ain't broke, don't fix it.) This time I was told my battery was on its last legs. I needed new tires and there was something dodgy about my steering. I agreed with needing new tires but went elsewhere because of price. A couple of months down the line my battery is still fine and no sign of any problem in my steering.

An air-conditioner clutch or a transmission clutch?

Aircon clutch. See the OP topic.

Now it is the only non-Toyota bit on my Vigo not counting tyres, wipers, battery, but works just a well..

Yes I read the OP. The prices you were quoted seemed a bit excessive, that's all, hence my question.
