Trump-Xi summit begins with a brawl

Donald Trump’s high-stakes meeting with Chinese President Xi Jinping erupted into chaos before talks had even properly begun — after a fight broke out inside the conference room in Beijing.

The extraordinary scenes unfolded as Trump entered the vast Great Hall of the People for crucial talks on Taiwan, trade and the Middle East. But instead of calm diplomacy, the summit opened with shouting, confusion and a scuffle involving members of a camera crew. A camera appeared to crash to the floor as tensions suddenly boiled over. In the middle of the melee, someone could be heard yelling: “Get the f*** out of here!”

The chaotic moment stunned onlookers and cast an immediate shadow over one of the most closely watched meetings between the United States and China in years. Despite the disorder, both leaders quickly pressed ahead with formal remarks — though their tone could hardly have been more different.

Trump opened the summit with warm praise for Xi, calling the Chinese leader a “great leader” and declaring: “It’s an honour to be your friend.”

“It’s an honour to be with you,” Trump added before promising that relations between the two nations were “going to be better than ever before”.

But Xi’s message carried a far colder warning.

The Chinese president cautioned that Washington’s handling of Taiwan could trigger “conflicts” between the world’s two superpowers. He warned the US and China must avoid sliding into confrontation and urged both nations to become “partners rather than rivals”.

Xi also invoked the so-called “Thucydides Trap” — a foreign policy theory suggesting war can erupt when a rising power threatens to overtake an established one. The phrase has become one of Xi’s recurring warnings about US-China relations and he has referenced it publicly since at least 2014.

“Cooperation benefits both sides, while confrontation harms both,” Xi said. “The two countries should be partners rather than rivals.”

The sharp contrast between the two leaders’ opening remarks laid bare the enormous divisions hanging over the summit. While Trump leaned heavily into personal praise and optimism, Xi focused on geopolitical risks and the dangers of conflict.

Behind closed doors, the pair reportedly met for around two hours to discuss trade and other major international flashpoints. According to a statement posted on X by Chinese foreign ministry spokesperson Mao Ning, Xi stressed that “the Taiwan question is the most important issue in China-US relations”.

That issue remains one of the most explosive pressure points between Beijing and Washington. China views Taiwan as part of its territory, while the United States maintains strong unofficial ties with the island.

The tense atmosphere also reflected wider disputes over trade, the war in Iran and strategic rivalry across Asia. Despite the grand pageantry surrounding Trump’s three-day visit to China, the opening exchanges suggested major breakthroughs remain elusive.

Instead, the summit appeared to showcase two leaders speaking in dramatically different tones — one projecting friendship, the other sounding the alarm over possible conflict.

The dramatic opening scuffle only intensified the sense that nerves are fraying as both global powers navigate an increasingly volatile relationship.

And with talks continuing under the glare of international attention, every word — and every clash — is likely to be scrutinised for signs of where US-China relations are heading next.

Feeling thankful for alert and capable leadership👌

Seems like an American camera crew were doing the wrong thing. Bit hard to tell but you can clearly hear "White House only" several times. Be interesting to know which network this crew was from.

he's a disgrace, no class no credibility, his only way is to issue threats, his speech is ridiculous as he keeps repeating over and over the same praise to Xi

the Chinese just so he can get some kind of deal to save face , as he is the great dealmaker

(in his own mind) and is really just a grifter/conman , dementia Don will most likely fall

asleep in the talks after the long flight." Alert and capable leadership " he's even more

sleepy than Biden ever was , you have seen him nodding off on Tv, or as Faux news says

blinking ...God save America , thank you for your attention to this matter...

Fully agree, Biden most likely would be walking around sniffing the Chinese girls hair and walking into walls.

The Chinese admire achievers, so they'll be in awe of Donald Trump who's always chasing personal bests albeit for the wrong reasons.

Superficially yes the Chinese admire the rich.

But now they know all about Trump and realize what a low level man that he is.

Word is that brought this number of China experts -- ZERO

Fattened lamb to the slaughter.

Just like the Maoist cultural revolution that demonized experts, so does the maga fascist regime. But China has moved on from that. The USA has taken a great step backwards.

Trump is in China where whether he knows it or accepts it or not. he is in objectively the much weaker position, and he is mostly the one to blame for that.

Decent Americans should be horrified and disgusted.

the picture is worth 1,000 words, just look at the face he made when Xi squeezed his hand, he must be in pain and look at the smirk face of Xi....LOL

Donald Trump will leave China a chastened man.

If he didn’t know what Xi Jinping meant by raising the specter of the Thucydides Trap when he arrived in Beijing, you can be sure that he does now.

I am curious to hear what he has to say about the so called "fantastic" meeting and the so called "fantastic" deals they made, quite sure Xi version and the loser version(s) will differ, in China they claim it was a great winner for Xi, and not long after their meeting Rubio already made a comment that the Chinese will not swallow easy

In a summit marked by fanfare and flattery, Xi warned Trump that differences over Taiwan, a self-governed island claimed by Beijing as its own territory, could bring the U.S. and China into clashes or conflict.

Rubio told NBC News on Thursday that U.S. policy toward Taiwan remains unchanged and it would be a “terrible mistake” for China to take Taiwan by force.

A few things to consider here. First of all Xi won Trump's insane trade war, hands down. Trump was knocked out cold, 2 minutes into the first round. He simply does not know how to negotiate his way out of a paper bag. And he was likely outclassed by 60 or 70 IQ points. Which is not hard. Let's give Don an F grade.

Second, in general, Asia is on the ascent, while the West, and especially the US, is on the decline. For a few decades, but worse now, than before.

I look at the US, and I see the Western Roman empire circa mid 5th century, prior to Odoacer marching into Rome.

Trump simply precipitated the inevitable decline. Whether or not the CCP remains in charge is irrelevant to China's growth and dominance. I don't like it. But, it is what it is. I predict in 50 years or so, the US will only be the 4th or 5th biggest world power.

There is no doubt the US is losing it's influence daily, and the remaining influence largely is due to the size of the economy (China remains a distant second), and the military (China may have a technically larger navy, but it lacks long range vessels and deep sea ports).

However, it does scare me to think of which nation may take it's place, when the time comes. It definitely will not be Russia (they are relatively insignificant economically), and I sure hope it will not be China, as they are not exactly a beacon of morality, and have been substantially more of a bully on the world stage, and do not wear their power lightly. Also, in my opinion, the government there is significantly more morally bankrupt than the US. And that is saying alot.

I get as far as the 1st sentence before howlin' disinformation rears its ugly head. Bro, have you even seen the Nasdaq performance since the big, beautiful tariffs were announced?! Now I know the forum left panicked and liquidized their portfolios back then after their fake news media assured us the stock market was going somewhere very hot in a handbasket, but its been a one way street. Up.

God bless DJT and his incredible economy😅

Lucky to encounter such outrageous lies in the 1st sentence as saved me from having to wade through the rest of this latest tantrum.

Someday you and others that think like the current president will wake up to reality IMHO but unfortunate for America and it citizens they are the ones that will suffer even more than they are today. You must have seen that news clip where Trump admitted he doesn't think at all about the financial problems of the American citizens! An embarrassment for this American.
