I'm much better off financially being married. Firstly as soon as we married we moved to a nice estate 38 kms east of Bangkok City. The first thing I noticed was the big difference in prices when shopping compared to Pattaya. Even my BP meds are 50% cheaper than Pattaya. There's not that many bars here but a large beer is no more than 80 baht, one bar is 70 baht. When I was single I always had flash clothes, overseas holidays and a new car every 4-5 years. I even raced horses and greyhounds and I did quite well on the punt but that's a thing of the past as I married 25 years ago,

Blaming and complaining do not help much. What helps is knowing who you are dealing with when you buy something, and whether the guarantees they give are real or not.

That can be a bit difficult in Thailand sometimes, but if you pay small money for something that would cost a lot more in proper quality, you should not be surprised if it does not work as you hoped or believed.

Anyway, I have heard about people who bought home products from Power and ended up in months-long claims. In the end, they had nothing.

At one low career ebb, I was selling Vitamix blenders in mega stores.

At the end of the demonstration, I would produce a box of broken blenders, put it on the counter, and say:

But after all that paying, you still don’t own one.

You can say the same thing about romantic relationships in Thailand.

If they do not have their own income, then yes if you lose your income, a lot of your value goes out the door with you.

But I know a fat old white guy in Chiang Mai who is being supported, just barely, through a long illness by his 711 – working girlfriend.

Not wife, girlfriend. To get that kind of loyalty and integrity, you would generally have to exhibit it yourself overtime.
