Not sure if I agree with your socio-economic demographic assessment, BritManToo. I agree there are a few countries (which will remain unnamed in order to avoid getting into an argument) whose expats seems to be mostly blue collar and working class men, but I do not believe that assessment can accurately be applied to expats across the board. Specifically, it has not been my observation that the American and Canadian ex-pat community in Thailand fit that profile.

If we are talking about western/Thai relationships in strictly financial terms, that they are so heavily underpriced compared to where we come from answers the question that the OP very reasonably asked.

In Bangkok, in my condo alone, There are three people who actually make a living out of playing poker. Chiang Mai would get more upscale yanks as well

But def, in Pattaya it’s usually an English school teacher living next-door to an American bricklayer. And a teacher is a little bit smarter and classier than a brickie on average.

On the prole End of the ex-pat spectrum, people who are ex military tend to be smarter.

The more you pay the more they dislike you, some guys paying their fake wives and girlfriends 50k-100k.

Sometimes it's once only, other times twice, others multiple times, i go with the flow, the girls get jealous if i pick someone else, stupid I know, not unusual for it to lead to fights.

I don't think paying an upcharge makes them into you, only in a fake way, they either like you or they don't
