Renewing British Passport

Yes must be information but can not find it

I used Key Visa before and there are others and I do not want to use VFS Global in Bangkok as it seems complicated.
Any advise appreciated.
Thanks.

VFS Global in Bangkok is the official outsourced partner for His Majesty’s Passport Office (HMPO) in Thailand, and most UK passport renewals in Thailand are processed through them. They also operate a centre in Chiang Mai.

The VFS Globa process is very straightforward - I'm not sure how you can find it complicated.

  • Book an appointment with VFS Global

  • Complete the application forms

  • Bring your current passport

  • Bring photocopies of every passport page

  • Bring compliant passport photos and supporting documents

You have to do exactly the same thing if using visa/passport agents.

The main difference is that an agent holds your hand and prepares the paperwork and attends or submits on your behalf, saving you the trip and admin work, but they still go through VFS Global/HMPO like everyone else and you'll just pay for that convenience on top of the passport costs.

IMO the risk of using an agent is present - there have been a number of stories on this forum of agents losing peoples passports - and by the time the issue is resolved, they are on overstay etc and and facing other complications.

IF you are in Bangkok - or Chiang Mai, or not even too far from either places I'd definitely look at doing this yourself - it really isn't complicated at all - though some seem a little overwhelmed, the steps are simple enough.

No worries.... if living well away from BKK, then the use of an agent makes a lot more sense.

Be sure to go with recommendations from other posters - as there have been dodgy agents and passport loss issues reported a handful on times on this forum

Perhaps list your 'area' - and someone may have local experience of an agent to help you out with.

I did go last time from Key visa in Pattaya and everthing was done through e-mail and post and also payment via an ATM. Thanks so much for your help/

I used Key Visa in Pattaya also (on the recommendation of several people who'd used them before) and everything went just swimmingly. Sadly, the Managing Director (Darren) died a few months later and I don't know if the agency is still as reliable as it was when he was there.

(It may well be, I just haven't dealt with them since, so I can't say one way or the other).

Yes, what a man Darren was and he sent a form in the post and did the rest and paid him through an ATM to his company's bank account and of course everything seems to be digital these days, but got some time yet, and thanks for your reply

Yes, thanks everyone who kindly sent replies to me and in the province of Kanchanaburi and have a yellow book showing my address in Thai, but when using Key visa in or around 2019 did mot need it and they did everything after I sent them the form and paid through the ATM when all sorted to their company's account!

I got a copy of current application and not very clear, but one hopefully get someone with a decent printer as and when needed, and yes this will probably change further down the line.
Thanks again all.

When renewing a UK Passport - proof of address needs to be written in English (so in theory - the Yellow House Book / Pink ID will not work because the address is only in Thailand - thus it was rejected for me in the past - I had to show my Thai Driving License which also has my Thai Address written in English)

I've just renewed my UK passport using Thai Visa Express in Pattaya and would definitely recommend them.

Staff are very friendly and helpful.

I live in Buriram and I dropped my application off at their office in person as I was already in Pattaya with family, but you can also send it to them by post.

My new passport was sent by Thai Visa Express using EMS post to my house in Buriram. Very happy.

Some people have reported having problems with payment. Thai debit card for example.

My TTB debit card had no problems.

I note people having difficulties providing proof of address here in English.

My son didn't have anything in English. So we contacted a translation company my wife saw online, emailed copies of the pages from my son's Blue Housebook pages and transferred some money, they emailed the translation for checking, then posted the certified translation.

Do the same with your yellow book, pink card, driving licence.

Useful company.......are you able to share their info..?

That is one of the reasons I used an agent. The agent's fee included the cost of the UK passport, which the agent paid on my behalf.

Thai Visa express can also provide a translation service.

They'd need to travel to Corby, as that's where they judge proof of address, and the staff there can only read English and Urdu.

I think the idea is to get the relevant doc(s) translated into English and sending those with the passport application.

I sent a copy of my Thai d/l with my application, in colour, certified by VFS, in English.

Corby insisted on having the original.

The wife thinks we paid around b300 for 2 pages of bluebook translated.

In addition to difficulties in providing proof of address in English and making payments with Thai bank cards, has providing facial photos which comply fully with HMPO's ultra-fussy requirements, particularly as regards acceptable background colours, proved problematical for anyone? We are, I think, left entirely to our own devices here, even if we use agents for everything else.

Most of those Thai photo shops you see everywhere should be able to do 'Roop Pass-a-port' no problem.

Sure, but if someone doesn't normally use their card online it would be wise to contact their bank first and make sure that they can.

I use my UOB Thailand debit card online and in many different countries all the time, but HM Passport Office won't accept it. I did not like the requirement by VFS Global to write the debit card details including the security code on a form to send with the passport application. A completely insecure means of payment leaving your debit card details exposed to staff at VFS Global and in the UK. I don't usually like using agents but next time I will.

I just did mine through VFS Global.

Got news today that in order to pick up my new passport I need my old passport AND the document checklist. I don't have my document checklist and they say I can't have my new passport without it.

I'm going through this right now, it's goofy, I would have thought that document would be included in the documents sent.

I emailed today to let them know I don't have it, we'll see what happens.

Once the HMPO got my docs they emailed me requiring my marriage certificate translated and a letter from Immigration confirming my address in Thailand, also translated.

VFS Global should have given you something along the lines of the attachment during your initial appointment. Did they not do this in your case?
